Toddlers: 24 Months+

classes for a three year old. HELP

What should I put my DS in for activities? He has so much energy, and he currently does tap and tumble at his daycare on Tuesdays, but I'd really like to get him into something out of school/on the weekends.

Do I go automatically to sports because he's a boy? I'm kind of thinking that he would really love tap, too.

What are your preschoolers into, class wise, if any? TIA

Re: classes for a three year old. HELP

  • We take DD to a toddler music class. It's 45 minutes long, involves songs, dancing, and instruments. I use the term "dance" loosely since its mainly the parents singing and dancing but she boogies alongside

A friend of ours takes her 3 yo son to toddler swim classes on the weekends.

  • We go to The Little Gym. There are gymnastics, dance, and "sports basics" classes.

Have you looked into My Gym or The Little Gym or similar?  They are gymnastics-ish (very play-focused and fun, but active).  DD and DS both love those classes.  But I think tap is fine, too, if he's interested!  Nothing wrong with that for a boy.

  • Our community center at the park offers swimming, dance, hip hop dance!!, tball, soccer, tumbling, art, nature adventure, and a few other classes for three year olds. Yes, hip hop dance!! Haha
  • We'll be doing soccer in the fall, because it's free. I'd like to do a music class as well. And then we go to reading time at the library.

  • We are currently doing tumbling, swim lessons, and music or messy art and he loves them all. He's 2.5 but as soon as he's old enough I'm signing him up for some sort of structured dance class. We tried a general sports themed class, which was basically an intro to soccer, basketball, lacrosse, and baseball, and he wasn't into it.

We did Little Gym for 2 years and we both really liked it.  It doesn't fit with our current schedule or else we would still be doing it.  We'll probably go back in the fall once she can do the classes independently.

Now we are doing swimming and start ballet next week.  I definitely recommend swimming.  It wears out my 2.5 year old super duper fast and she really likes it.

In the fall I want to try a music class and I think she'd like soccer, too, once she is old enough for it.
