Pain & Pressure in Lower Abdomen

For Mobile Bumpies: Pain & Pressure in Lower Abdomen

For the past week, I've been experiencing pain and pressure in my lower abdomen, way lower than my belly button and all the way across my stomach.

I am 34 weeks pregnant today.  It's excruciating when I first stand up or the first few steps. It lessens somewhat when standing or walking for an extended period, but the pain and pressure it still there. It's just less intense.

My doctor says it's normal to have these feelings in late pregnancy. Are any of you experiencing this? How are you coping?

I have quite a while to go before I go on Mat leave, so I can't just lie on my couch all day--although I would love to!

Re: Pain & Pressure in Lower Abdomen

  • i'm 36 weeks & 5 days.. i have been having this issues for the past few weeks. it's getting worse as the days go on. I'm not going on maternity leave until i go into labor. getting up to go to the bathroom is a mess. sometimes i feel like this child is about to come out the bottom of my stomach. so much pressure. my doc said it was normal also. seeing how i'm only a cm dialated & my cervix is still pretty high. i'm sure it is not indicate labor is here. • I'm seeing a good preggo chiro experienced in websters to help with all the lovely discomforts. Finding a good chiro is worth it's weight in gold!!! She was able to take the round ligament pulling away and lessened my back pain from pretty early on. She also aligns my hips, back and pelvis. I dont take anyones suggestion that tells me that i just have to be miserable just because Im pregnant. I also have a support belt to wear to take off pressure, they have them at BRUS. And do stretches, and take walks.
  • I just asked my doctor about it today, and she says it's all normal. It's a pain, but she recommended I get a belly band (belly support). I got one at Babies R Us for like 30 bucks and it helps with holding my tummy and also with some of the back pain. I would try one of those if you have to be on your feet a lot during the day.

    GL to you!!!

  • I actually do have one of the belly support bands, a Medela one I purchased from BRU.

However, when I wear it, the pain actually gets worse. I'm not sure why. I've tried different positions, tighter, looser, etc. It just makes the pressure more intense.

  • I think I have the same thing. I find it's worst when I stand up after sitting or lying down for long periods. If I get up and move around more often it isn't as bad. But I'm expecting that I'll be dealing with it until I deliver.
  • I have exactly what you described.

But I'm not exactly coping. It sucks.

THIS!!! I've been seeing a chiro (that I trust) since early second tri. He has really helped alleviate a lot of the pregnancy discomfort. My lower back pain is still there, but not nearly as bad and the round ligament pain hasn't been as bad either. I would definitely recommend finding a chiropractor experienced in websters. I can tell a big difference when I skip a week. I can't imagine if I hadn't started seeing him; the pain would be horrible!

  • I have this issue try using a underbelly support belt and a support belt for back pain in pregnancy I put the underbelly support on first then I put the back support on over it and it helps to keep the belts from itching I use a sleeve or belly band shirt extender under it to keep my skin comfortable

Yeah me too. It gets better if I walk a bunch. I'm not sure if it's RLP or what...
