The embryologist said that they were fertilized naturally. Does that mean that they didn't have to use icsi? I didn't think about that until after we hung up the phone.

Ok, so now I am confused. We had talked about doing ICSI. Why wouldn't they do that then? Not complaining. Happy to hear it was done naturally but I guess I don't understand.

Congrats on a good report! I would ask why they didn't so ICSI. It's great everything turned out okay, but I'd be concerned if it didn't and they didn't do ICSI.

I'm no expert, but our office said that they would only do ICSI if there were MFI issues as it is best to not mess with the egg too much if possible. For our clinic, it is something we sign off on to say it is okay to do this if they can't get them fertilized naturally.

TTC #1 since May 2012
May 2013: First R.E. appointment
DH: SA is good
May 2013: CD3 Blood work-normal June 2013: Hsg-Right tube blocked
July 26, 2013: Starting Follistim for IVF #1
August 2013: IVF #1 Cancelled- Abnormal embryos
October/November 2013: IVF #2 w/ICSI
November 8, 2013: Transferred two early blasts (no frosties)
My first cycle we used ICSI with 3 mature eggs and 2 fertilized. DH doesn't have any diagnosed issues but they said the motility was a little low and with the number of eggs they would use ICSI for a better shot. My 2nd cycle they told me they would use ICSI again because once they used it, they would use it in subsequent cycles. Well I got the fert report that out of 6 mature, 5 fertilized normally (no ICSI). At first I was really upset because I was wondering if that meant they just waited to see if they fertilized naturally and if they didn't it would be too late for ICSI? I still don't know why they decided to try it naturally but this one worked so I'm not questioning it anymore. Lots of luck to you!!!
