Parenting after a Loss

Naps?

How do your LO's nap?

Now that DD is in daycare, they send me home with a sheet that says when she napped, and she's only getting two 30 minute naps while there.  DH says she'll do the same in the mornings before daycare and get two 30 minute naps at home with him.  By the time I pick her up at 4:30, she's extremely fussy but refuses to nap.  That makes for one long screaming evening until she finally goes down about 8pm.  She's STTN beautifully, 10-11 hrs straight, so that's not an issue.  I just want her to be better rested during the day so that when I come home we can really enjoy our time together instead of just trying to constantly calm her. It's starting to make me feel like she doesn't like being with me.  :(

So I know all babies are different, but I'm curious how you all do it.  Do you have a nap routine similar to bedtime?  Where does LO nap, crib, swing?  And how long?

Thanks Ladies!

That's great that she STTN at 3 months! I'm jealous!

My DD has a weird nap routine when at day care. When at day care she takes several shorter naps usually. They put her in her crib at day care but will let her nap if she falls asleep in a swing.

At home when she naps it is usually after she eats and one of us is holding her. We will then put her in her crib to finish her nap. When at home she usually takes 2 or 3 naps lasting between 45 minutes and an hour and a half each.

Where are they putting her down to nap at day care? If she naps better in a swing or bouncer or something would they be ok with letting her nap in that as opposed to her crib or wherever else they have her napping?

They are putting her in the crib to nap, but I know she falls asleep in the bouncer too and they don't move her when that happens.  It's our bouncy seat from home so no other kids use it.

Emma will be 3 months tomorrow.  She still sleeps a lot but I also think my kids just have a love for it.  At night she sleeps from 9:30 pm to 7:30 am.  Wakes for a bottle.  Falls back to sleep for 2 hours.  Plays for a bit, eats, sleeps for a half hour.  Plays for awhile.  She then takes a 3-1/2 hour nap from 1-4:30.  She wakes up and is awake until about 7 where she cats nap.  Rinse and repeat.

She put herself on this schedule and follows it regardless of where we are. If I have to get her up to take her some where she sleeps in the car seat or carrier.  If we are home she sleeps in her crib during the day and in the pnp at night by my bed.  No routine for nap, she just fusses and I lay her down.  Sometimes she will fuss to be swaddled other times she falls asleep as is.

I do know for most babies the evening is when they're typically the fussiest :(   It could just be that or she could be overtired or both.

Sounds like Emma is doing so well! I love it!

So I forgot to mention that on weekends, we do nap together in my bed. She'll nap for a full 2 hours and then we don't have the evening meltdown. That's what really makes me think, she just needs longer and better quality naps. I just need to figure out the right combination to make that happen when I'm not there.

Does she sleep swaddled at home with you? Is there something you can try to replicate?

No, she's doesn't nap while swaddled.  I tried it once, and she got a good 1 hour nap, but it hasn't worked since then.  I tried it last night and she just kicked and kicked and fought her way out.  The thing with napping with me is that I'm right there so when she starts squirming I can put the pacifier in her mouth and she goes right back to sleep.  She usually refuses the pacifier but mid-nap it helps her go back to sleep.  Strangely, she doesn't need it at all for night sleeping.

  • Jackson naps like that and still doesn't sleep through the night. : can you try putting her down a little earlier? Does she show signs of tired earlier? 8 is usually when Jackson goes down but yesterday he was out by 630 and just woke up for feedings every 3 to 4 hours and was still asleep through 630. If he's tired I put him down

I did try this last night. I thought either she'll nap for a bit or just stay asleep. I swaddled and put her in her crib just like we do for bedtime and she hated it! This was about 6:30. Did the same thing at 8 and she went right to sleep for the night.

ETA:nbsp; I sometimes feel like they get the best of her during the week and that hurts my heart.nbsp; I think this is something that will get easier?nbsp; :

Thats the way I feel! I sent DH to the library to pick up The NoCry Nap Solution. There's got to be something there that can help.

  • At three months my Ds had a killer growth spurt. Perhaps nothing to do with your dd and her not napping, but a thought. He was a crappy napper for pretty much the entirety of his infanthood. What you described, the bazillion cat naps, that was my kid. Her sleep patterns will inevitably change. If it makes you feel better, at 20m ds now takes one or two naps a day and they are one to two hours each. He's still sttn as well, twelve or so hours.
