I just went and toured the daycare Nolan is waitlisted for. He's been on the waitlist for a few months and yes I'm just now touring it. The list is so long, he's up to 32 from 53, I wasn't in a huge hurry.
OMG it's SO nice. A little more money than I thought, but totally worth it. Way nicer than he is now.
They were appalled when I said he had to move to the next room and be off the bottle at a year.
I find myself so close to being a compete cliche and trying to figure out how to bribe my way higher up the list. lol Like I have bribing money.
I am okay with him being where he is for a couple more months in the infant room but not much longer.
Gah! I hate the dearth of good daycare conveniently located around work and home.
Re: daycare
I have no idea what the AAP recommends. It's not like I want him on the bottle for forever, but it's so stressful to have to force their development on someone else's timeline. The pedi didn't mention anything about having him off the bottle by 12 months at his 9 month appt and she won't see him again until 12 months, so...
The other daycare doesn't allow bottles in the next room, either, but there isn't a hard and fast time for them to move. It's based on their development: physical, mental and social. Walking, taking table foods, off the bottle, etc.
On the bright side: HE HELD HIS OWN BOTTLE THIS MORNING!!!
Well, I pretty much made him. I gave him half and then he screamed at me for a few seconds then grabbed it and stuck it in his mouth and finished it himself.
Ha-lay-loo-yer
I don't mind holding it for him, either, but I figure the first step in this mandatory switch to sippies would be for him to hold his own bottle. Once he's consistently doing that we'll switch the nipple from the Nuk M flow bottle nipple to the sippy nipple.
It is fun to see their personalities! I love noticing new sounds, expressions, gestures, etc.
Don't see how you're bursting my bubble. What I described as far as moving up and transitioning off the bottle developmentally is just the way it's done at the daycare he'll be moving to eventually. Obviously, it's different in different centers. I just prefer their method rather than forcing the development. Though I could see some kids, possibly even my own, having to be forced before they'll do it. I clearly need to think about pushing him outside his comfort zone a little and letting him be mad.
Mute point anyway because he won't get in there anytime soon so I'll have to move ahead with getting him off the bottle, at least during the day, by the end of August.
we're having issues with getting Addy to hold her own bottles too!
granted that is partly my fault. she can hold her 4oz plastic bottles, but her 8oz ones are glass and too heavy. she just doesn't do the sippy yet. I keep one around for her to try, but she's just not a fan.
our daycare doesnt' have any recs about getting off a bottle, but the infant room goes up to 18 months. (ps we're not in daycare yet, but the one we'll use when I go back)

Just wanted to say it's not your fault on the glass bottles - DD holds her 8 oz glass bottles. Obviously totally fine if you don't want to force it, but don't feel guilty about your bottle choice
