Daycare question

S is in the toddler room at daycare. He started in that room last June, and mostly really loves it. But his closest friends in his class are moving up to preschool this summer....

The first boy moved about a month ago, and he's still talking about him. The next girl started transitioning to the new room for a few hours every day this week, and his teacher said he kept asking about her. This morning, he pulled his chair to sit as close as possible to the soon-departing friend. And he longs to go on the big-kid playground like you wouldn't believe.  It will be a while till he moves up, because there are 2-3 kids left who have birthdays before December.

I know somebody else had a question about this lately. Although he's younger, he talks lots more than the next two. Would you push for him to move up sooner than the other kids who are older? If not, how to assuage the lost time with his best buddies and keep him engaged at school?

With new baby coming, I want him to be as happy as he can at daycare.
