How crunchy are you?

The earlier post about being a "hippie" mom reminded me of a poll my friend posted on Facebook a few weeks ago called How Crunchy Are You?

https://themoralesfamily.us/granola.htm

(someone remind me of the html to make that clicky and I will edit it)

I'll be honest: I scored a measly 26 points (thus barely "sprinkled with granola"). Obviously, the quiz has faults-- I, for one, think there needs to be an option to choose "No, after having considered it carefully."

So: how crunchy are you?

Re: How crunchy are you?

  • I scored 100. I'm more crunchy than I thought I would be!

  • I consider myself modern pseudo crunchy. I think that is a HEAVILY skewed survey toward a particular type of crunch that's not that common.

I am planning to CD, EBF, baby wear, use NFP for TTC, baby led weaning, and several other things on that survey. But there are others I would never consider. I actually stopped the quiz midway bc I just think it's measuring only one extreme or the other.
    BFP #1 - Mango - 6/11/12, EDD 2/22/12 Natural MC 7/15/12
    BFP #2 - Nacho - 10/14/12, EDD 6/20/13, MMC 8 weeks, D&C 11/16/12
All testing shows both H and I are perfectly normal. Baby Nacho had triploidy.

  • 40 - right where I thought I'd be.

  • I came out 102 - in the middle, which fits me well. I agree that it's on one side of extreme with certain philosophies (ie no meat being the most crunchy).

  • I scored a 32. Thats higher than what I would have thought! But, yeah not crunchy.
  • I got a 69 and honestly I am pretty crunchy. My kid wears homemade diaper cream on her CD tush.  The thing is I also believe in science and evidence based medicine and in this quiz those two things seem to be treated as mutually exclusive.

    103. Shocking since I had a home birth and am nursing a cloth diapered 2 year old while pregnant. But yeah, vaccines - come on science. Also, I have to wear shoes because my knees are all F'ed up. Womp womp. We also follow pretty strict diets, but they include meat.

    15...yeah, SO not crunchy.

Aww, you beat my un-crunchy record!

But I would consider myself a 'hippie' in comparison to most people I know. Meh. It is what it is.

I love you. I asked DH what he thought about me doing this when the question was up, and he had to think about it. To me, it is just ridiculous for me to think about a hungry baby who I CAN feed and choosing not to feed it for who.only.knows.what.for. You have my admiration for doing this!

Hey lady, I've been meaning to PM you. I saw a comment you made on the natural birth board about home birthing and wanted to talk to you about it... I mobile bump mostly so I will let you know when I can finally PM you.

Very impressive! I'd love to core that high, but I'm a measly 113. Preparing to move from Alaska to small town Texas and terrified of being decrunched there!
  • 73 for me...some of those were a little out of there for me. breastfeeding someone else's child? um...no thanks, i'd never even think about that....

  • I got 81, which isn't bad I guess. I agree that the poll is skewed towards certain topics. I do a lot of the things mentioned in the poll but not to the super extreme degree.

Also, what about things like composting, vermiculture, using cloth napkins, not using chemicals around the house, refusing to use pesticides, using newspaper as landscape fabric, conserving energy and water, etc. I think those things make someone crunchy too!

Interesting quiz - thanks for sharing.

I scored a 22, higher than I thought I would, but I do not consider myself crunchy at all. Heck, I didn't even know what "crunchy" meant until about 6 months ago, haha!

  • 107, so that is pretty much right.  Planning on home birth with MW, make my own body products, eat organic when I can (but have no garden), cloth diaper, reusable women's products, etc.

However, give my child vaccines, don't be in a bed with me, I love makeup and where was the option for stilettos?  ;)

This bothered me too.  I have a whole irrigation system set up to use our grey water (which is safe for our lawn due to my homemade green cleaning products) and I didn't get a single point.

I love this. My mother and her best friend gave birth 3 weeks apart and as a result, they frequently nursed each other's children (whoever felt full when which ever baby got hungry).

I think I cringed when my mom told me this, as a teenager. But now I love it, love that they felt comfortable enough to do it and while I was always very close to my mom's best friend, now I feel just a little closer :-)

  • 39 - sprinkled with granola. Pretty much where I thought I'd be. :)

We try to eat whole grain and natural, but I like meat.  I don't buy into so-called organic beauty products or anything else that's not under the domain of USDA regulation and can't legitimately claim that "organic" label.  I trust in the science of vaccines and modern medicine, though I'm happy to try home/herbal remedies for minor ailments.  I go barefoot at home just for comfort, but always wear shoes out.  I shave and wear makeup. I wouldn't consider a home birth because I want to be seconds/minutes away from emergency equipment and trained medical personel, not 20-30 minutes away without traffic.  We've considered cloth diapering but aren't sold on it because of water conservation issues and daycares not being cloth-friendly, which kills the money-saving aspect of it.  I'd like to breastfeed/pump, but won't beat myself up over having to supplement with formula if needed.

Seems like the quiz is skewed toward the trendy-crunchy.
