Sun block

My LO has very fair skin and is a sweaty beast. My question is two fold: recommend your "sweat proof" sun block, and tell me how in the world I get sunscreen on his scalp hat only works some of the time without his hair looking like a grease ball

Re: Sun block

  • We use Banana Boat Baby. It has worked great so far and we spend ALOT of time outside. Sorry, no suggestions for the scalp, my LO wears a hat.

  • We use Neutrogena baby sunblock. No complaints, but his hair is crazy after, not greasy though. He has excema and super sensitive skin, and no problems!

  • We use Green Beaver. I use it too, and it works well, not greasy. I put it on my part, for LO up to the hair line only. LO is very fair so I keep a bonnet or bucket hat on her all the time while outside. I recommend checking out the EWG sunscreen list (just google it). They rate them by safety of ingredients.

  • We are using Coppertone Water Babies Pure & Simple 50 SPF. Goes on easily, and it is fragrance and dye free.

The FDA made sunscreen manufactures change their labels this year, so the key thing is they cannot claim to be water or sweat proof. There are directions on the labels on how often to reapply. Also, look for broad spectrum protection.

How do you get him to keep the hat on? Does it tie on? Did you have to work up to wearing it for a while? J pretty much rips hats off his head the second I put them on..

Sorry to butt in, but check out the iPlay hat. It has a huge brim and a draw string that tightens the hat around the base of the scalp and a strap to go under the chin. I had it on my lo for 3 hours at the beach yesterday, and it stayed put.

We also use Babyganics Sunscreen from Target.
