We just ordered the Hensvik crib from IKEA for use at my mom's house. I didn't buy an ikea mattress because I prefer a sealy one but wonder if a non-ikea mattress will fit in their cribs?
I have the Ikea Sundvik crib with the Safety 1st Heavenly Dreams ($39 on Amazon) in my nursery right now. Mattress fits fine. Ikea cribs are standard size.
i thought ikea wasnt the standard size....? not 100% sure though. i think american and Swedish have different size standards
No. They are standard size here in America. Many standard mattresses fit. They are just lower to the ground. They may not look like the monster PBK cribs, but they are standard.
Not all crib mattresses are the exact same size though. So like with any crib, you might have to try it out and see if it fits well. We use the Colgate Classica 1.
This! I'd buy your mattress from somewhere where you might be able to do an easy return or exchange if things don't work out. Even mattresses that claim standard dimensions are often a bit off. We bought an LA baby mattress from their natural line and it's a snug fit in our Ikea crib, which is great for the baby but harder on me to do linen changes.
I looked at the ikea cribs, but when the sales girl told us that you need to buy an Ikea mattress to go with it because it's not standard size, we decided to just walk away.

When ikea first came to the US the beds and mattresses weren't standard US sizes. They have been standard sizes for several years now though.
