Blended Families

Intro and book rec_divorce

Intro-  newly-divorced mom of two girls ages 2&4. Dad chooses to have a small relationship with the kids; a few hrs/mo.  Open to questions-ask away!  Another bumpie suggested this board. In the future, I hope to have a blended fam.

Any book rec's on divorce for toddlers?

  • I didn't find any awesome books, but the classic Dinosaurs Divorce was helpful (is, actually).  A lot of things did not apply so we skipped them (Mommy and Daddy argued and yelled - there was none of that, for example).  My youngest was an infant, oldest in preschool when we divorced.

There are also workbook style books for slightly older children, but I do not recall the names.

  • I've also heard good things about Dinosaur Divorce. When my son was younger he had a hard time dealing with missing his dad but he was too young to really understand anything about divorce. The book that helped him the most was a recordable story book. Then whenever DS needed to feel close to his dad he could pull out the book and hear his dads voice.
