All about POOP

So on Sunday LOs poop turned from the typical mustard yellow to green, and it remained green all day.

i had run out of prenatals and wondered if that was it. Started them back on Monday and the first poop  immediately went back to yellow.....I thought we were ok but they've since turned into a greenish yellow mix. Looks more green on the diaper but yellow on the wipe.

i called the Pedi and they said not to worry unless LO seemed uncomfortable or they poop was white, black or had blood in it. Then she said how it may just be something I ate and that got me thinking. I have not remotely changed my diet in the last week and I eat a lean diet to begin with (lots of grilled meats and salads.)

wondering if anyone else has been through anything similar and/or had any insight!?!?!

Baby poop is a mysterious thing. Unless it is consistently green with mucous or green and frothy, I wouldn't worry much. E had green or orange poops sometimes.

  • What TJ said.  M's poop turned all green when he was 2-3 wks old.  Lasted for a couple of weeks (on/off green), then went away completely.  Totally unrelated to my diet.

  • I could be making things up, but I swear dd's poop turned green when we switched her to gentle ease formula. I also bf. Maybe it has something to do with digesting iron? Is it different on days you have more or less iron?

But I wouldn't worry about the green, it's in the realm of normal. Wait til it gets orange from sweet potatoes, lol.

This!  Now that DD is on all solids and milk, hers can be anything from hard little nuggets to huge piles of mush with bits of undigested food in them (you can always tell when she's been eating a lot of blueberries or peas! LOL).

"Normal" is a huge range for babies!  Unless there's blood, I wouldn't worry.

  • Not to scare you, but DSs poop was green and he was Dx as MSPI (there was more going on there). Even after we eliminated all the dairy and soy, his poop remained green and was never the mustard yellow EBF poop is supposed to be. Our Pedi said it was fine.

    Milk and Soy Protein Intolerant.

ETA: the green poop would usually be accompanied by other symptoms, such as blood or mucous in poop, extremely fussy/colicky, congested sounding and more.

This. For us there was definitely other symptoms, but he was never fussy/colicky or congested sounding due to this. He had reflux though and that was a whole other issue....
