I need some ideas for independent play that Charlotte (9.5 months) can do in her PNP, by herself, for 20 minutes.
We have never had true independent playtime, but I find that we need it now. I am home with her for the summer, and I can no longer just expect her to play with toys in the living room. With all the crawling and standing, she is too interested in doors, drawers, hinges, trash cans, etc.
Anybody know a website or blog with activities I could give her to do during independent playtime?
Re: Independent playtime ideas
I am finding this difficult too, looking forward to hearing responses.
I gave DS some plastic measuring cups to bang together which entertained him for a while. Then he played with an egg carton for a long time but then decided to eat it instead.
I just took out stacking cups, snap beads and a shape sorter (from the old box of his sister's toys). He also likes a set of soft stacking blocks we have. I have read that putting ball pit balls in the pnp is a great hit. He loves our zany zoo activity cube that people posted about yesterday. I also grab a bunch of different size throw pillow and toss them on the floor.
My DD won's stay in a pack n play except to sleep...so my house looks like a pool noodle farm! I have those suckers everywhere. No more head bonks for her! The best is when she whacks her face off of our glass coffee table repeatedly and gives me the same shocked, hurt, embarrassed look every. single. time.
She plays with her little sit and stand cars, I put up a play tent for her that she likes to just sit in (literally, that's all she does is sit and smile to herself....creep), she's fond of wrestling with her gigantic teddy bear. Other than that, I find that it's more worth it to keep the floors immaculate and the dangerous stuff out of reach and kind of just let her follow me around. Crawling back and forth from kitchen to living room to bathroom and back makes for quite the sleepy little bugger.
Today's independent playtime is happening right now. She is in her crib with the following:
- Disney music playing (obviously from across the room)
- a plastic bowl, Tupperware container, spatula, and two measuring spoons
- a rattle
- two board books
She's been happy for 15 minutes while I showered and dressed. She's chatting now, but doesn't seem upset. I'm aiming for 20+ minutes today. We'll see!
