First Birthday Party

For the moms that have already had their LO first birthday party what are some things you wish you thought of or that you would have done differently? I am getting ready for Alex's birthday and I'm getting anxious about it. I already had friends of MIL ask to come that I wasnt expecting which is great more people that love DS the better but with the list I was expecting already doubled. I was thinking of doing cheeseburgers, pasta salad, chips, watermellon, smash cake for Alex and cupcakes for the adults. I feel like I need more food maybe like some jello etc?

    Your menu looks just fine to me. I had a themed piece of scrapbook paper for people to use as a "guest book" and write notes to LO.

    Mostly don't sweat it. It's just a birthday party and it's a birthday that the kid won't remember anyway.

    It will be fine. If you're looking for something to add to the menu, how about salad or a veggie tray? I'd skip the Jell-O, but I am not a big fan of it. And just bc friends of your MIL say they're coming does not mean you actually do need to invite them. You control the guest list.

    I would add a veggie platter.  Other than that, your menu is good.  I wouldn't include the Jello, and I am a big fan of it.  It is messy and unnecessary since you uhave cupcakes.

    The one thing that I am glad I did was a guest book that was a photo book (hard cover from Shutterfly) that had pictures from DDs first year and people signed the inside covers. Just a fun keepsake.

    Food looks good to me!  I do suggest trying out singing Happy Birthday to your DS before the party with a cupcake and candle.  Mine flipped out when everyone surrounded him, while staring and singing in unison, and then we put fire in front of him.  We joked that he thought we were going to sacrifice him.  Traumatized him enough he only recently stopped hiding at birthday parties when the cake comes out.  I have high hopes for his 3rd birthday! :)
