Hi
I was diagnosed with GD at 31 weeks, and have just started testing this week with my changed diet.
All of my 1 hour levels are good, but my morning fasting levels is about always a little high. I am meant to test below 5.0 but am coming in at 5.3s and 5.4s.
My question: Is there anything I can do to help reduce this level?
I have my supper at about 9.30-10.00pm, which is 1 serving of fruit. Is there something I can add to this to help reduce my glucose levels overnight?
I will contact my GD midwife tomorrow as well, but wondered if any of the Mums here have experience based advice.
Re: GD Mums - Morning Fasting Levels Question
I tried a variety of things but always came up with high fasting numbers. I tried eating dinner earlier, and then a snack before bed (usually crackers and cheese). I also tried different snacks, or eating dinner later and no snack.
Ultimately I went on Insulin. My docs explanation is that my liver is producing more glucose over night and we just need to assist in giving more insulin to shuttle it into the cells. Don't be scared of the meds, its just temporary and is best for LO if your body is having a diff time keeping fasting numbers down.
Fasting is the hardest to control without medication.
Are you having a snack an hour before bed? How long are you going between the last time you eat and taking your fasting?

I have better fasting #s with fatty, high-carb snacks before bed. If I try to have peanut butter and celery, my # goes too high. If I have ice cream and almonds, my fasting # is good.
Try experimenting with your evening snack. You could also try not having any snack before bed and seeing what that does.
