My IL's cat has had a helluva couple of days. I guess yesterday MIL went outside to find him because he didn't run out for breakfast, and when he doesn't that usually means he escaped outside. She looked out front to find a puddle of blood and followed the trail and found Fred under her bushes.
She took him to the vet immediately. It was determined that he had cracked his top palate completely through and they assumed swelling of the brain because one of his eyeballs was bulging and nonresponsive. He had surgery to try to repair his top palate yesterday an d while they were in there they realized he had also shattered his entire bottom jaw. They had to call a specialist about that. He had another surgery today with the specialist to wire his bottom jaw back together.
Somehow this cat pulled through both surgeries and is expected to go home with many antibiotics and having to eat soupy food tomorrow at 4. They will bring him back in 4 weeks should things go well to have the wire removed from his jaw. The vet doesn't even know how he lived. We assume he got hit by a car in the face and because he is so thin it just flung him out of the way and that is why he has no other broken bones.
I am not a huge cat person, but this cat has always had a special place in my heart, because MIL found him in her garden the day DH and I started dating over 7 years ago now. Plus he is the only cat they have that will let Aiden come up to him and pet him. Fred will have a rough next month, but if you could just give a thought for him that would be awesome. We are really just hoping nothing gets infected now. If it doesn't they think he should heal alright.
