Ive kind of been lurking on here for awhile.... I have so.questions about trying to.get pregnant and Im hopimg someone can give me some advice. I am on my second round of clomid but I am not being monitored by my obgyn at all, really. I use answer ovulation tests and have done ai using a known donor at my home. This cycle I inseminated on the day I got a positive ovulation test, the next day and then got another positive 2 days later and did a third insemination. Im wondering if I am doimg things right and if anyone else has experience with being on clomid with little to no supervision? I am on clomid because I have PCOS and I dont ovulate on my own.I also posted this in the trying to get pregnant forum. sorry for the long post!!!! TIA

Personally, I would not take Clomid without proper monitoring. Even though I ovulate on my own, Clomid made me stop ovulating. We would not have known that if I was not getting regular blood tests and ultrasounds to check the progress of my ovaries and my hormones. If you don't ovulate regularly, it is also possible that a smaller dose of Clomid won't be sufficient to promote ovulation. Again, there is no way of knowing without monitoring. Clomid can also cause cysts and thin your lining, both problematic for conception, which you cannot detect without monitoring.
A reproductive endocrinologist will monitor you properly, but if you want to stick with your OB, you could always ask if they can monitor you more closely while you are taking Clomid.
Good luck.
ETA: I cannot comment on the insemination part as we did IUIs with frozen sperm and the procedure and timing issues are different.
9 IUIs = 9 BFNs

this may be a silly question but what all do they monitor for? I live in Oklahoma and the re I went to previously refused to prescribe anything to help.me ovulate because I wanted to use a known donor. Shes also not a fan of lesbians....
They will test your estrogen, LH and possibly progesterone levels in your blood every few days, starting around maybe CD10, to see how close to ovulation you are getting. Estrogen should rise as you get close to ovulation and peak around ovulation. LH will surge just before ovulation, and if your progesterone is over a certain number it means you have already ovulated. They also will do a transvaginal ultrasound every few days starting around the same time to look at your ovaries. They can tell if you are getting close to ovulation by the increase in size of your ovarian follicles -- typically one follicle will grow big and release an egg at ovulation, but with Clomid and other fertility drugs you can sometimes have two or more release an egg; they can tell this from the ultrasounds. One of the other reasons it is good to be monitored is that they want to reduce the likelihood of multiples, so if you have too many mature follicles they could cancel a cycle. They could also cancel you or increase your Clomid dosage if you aren't actually ovulating. And they can use the ultrasound to measure your uterine lining and see if it is thick enough to support a pregnancy (since in some women, Clomid can thin it too much).
Hope that answers your questions.
