Victorian Breastfeeding Photo Fad

Pretty cool to think women in the mid-1800s were proudly taking pictures while nursing.  It's interesting to think about considering how offended some people are currently by the "immodesty" of breastfeeding in front of others, pictures get removed from FB, etc.  Meanwhile, it's not like pictures were commonplace back then, yet women wanted to be pictured nursing their babies.  Very cool.

  • So interesting!  Victorians also took photos of dead relatives...they were much less squeamish about the facts of life, apparently, than we are today.  Thanks for posting!

I read that old photos are often stone-faced because you had to sit extremely still for a long time, since exposure was very long for the photo to take properly.

Thanks for the link! Love it! Shared it with some friends :)

  • I used to be one of those people who wished BFing moms would cover up. I can't believe I ever felt like that! Now I NIP usually with a a cover but if DD doesn't like the cover, off it comes.

If prim and proper Victorian ladies were cool with BFing, what the heck is the problem with it nowadays?
