I will be getting my strep b test done on Friday, so this is a precautionary question...as I was reading the effects and precautions for a vaginal delivery, I know for sure that I will be having a csection as I am carrying twins and both are breech at 35w3d. I did some research but nothing is clear on if Group B Strep has any effect on csections. Any ideas?!?
Re: Strep B and Csection
Interestingly, something I read recently seemed to give valid information that infection often occurs before birth, while in the womb. Not in every case, but it was telling that often, illness shows up an hour or two after birth, and seems to indicate pre-birth infection of GBS. I always wondered why they treat for c/s, but that explains why. It's contained on this page from Evidence Based Birth:
https://evidencebasedbirth.com/groupbstrep/
" When a baby has an early GBS infection, symptoms usually appear within the first 12 hours, and almost all babies will have symptoms within 24-48 hours (CDC 2010). In a study of 148,000 infants born between 2000 and 2008, almost all of the 94 infants who developed early GBS infection were diagnosed within an hour after birth?suggesting that early GBS infection probably begins before birth (Tudela et al. 2012)."
It's an interesting read.
