Dropped?

FTM here - this doesn't seem like a hassle-the-midwife-with-a-phone-call question.  I know it'll happen eventually, but it seems a little early to me (33 weeks 4 days) so I'd like your input on whether you think this kid dropped.  The last 2 days the downward pressure in my abdomen is just insane, particularly by the end of the day.  I thought he had flipped to breech because I couldn't feel his feet in my ribs anymore, but it turns out they're still nearby, just a bit further down.  There is also a TON of wiggling and elbowing and thrashing below my bikini line.  I swear my belly is drooping but my husband says I'm imagining it.  I've also been feeling intermittent dull pain/heaviness down there, just like I would a couple days before my period.

Does it sound like he's dropped?  Is it a cause for concern if he has and it's still kinda early for that?  Can babies un-drop?

Re: Dropped?

  • I'm a FTM as well, so don't know if he has dropped but my son loves his hands so he is constantly hitting my bladder and everything else down there. I've been feeling what I'm thinking us lightning crotch for the past week, it's sharp pains below my abdomen, I hear its normal though.

  • It is possible. LO has dropped already and if one more person tells me he has I may want to punch them in the face. I know he is low I look at his every day but thank you captain obvious!!

  • My LO dropped at least three weeks ago. I felt a noticable difference in my ability to breath freely and noticed his movement way lower.... and his hiccups way lower. That's a weird one! Multiple people have commented on how low I'm carrying.

Yesterday I started feeling rib pain and noticed this morning that I wasn't carrying as low anymore.

I think its totally normal to be in any sort of position depending on how they arrange themselves in utero .

  • Some babies just like to get in launch position earlier than others. DD got into position at 20 weeks and stayed there. She was also dropped by this time. I remember because at the 3d ultrasound with her the tech continually commented about how low she was and she had to have the wand below my hips for the face picture attempts.

DS has also gotten himself locked and loaded already.

BTW DD arrived on her due date so its bit necessarily an indication of them actually coming any earlier.

This.... I hear this everyday at work by someone different. I just want to tell them, "thanks, I got the memo!"

I had an ultrasound yesterday and the doc confirmed my baby's head is already engaged in my pelvis. I asked him if this is a reason to worry the baby will be born early and he said no.

  • It's nothing to worry about and in no way a sign of when you may or may not go into labor.
