small or large party?

Did you do a small or large party for LO's 2nd b-day. Traditionally it appears that the 1st b-day is the one to go all out. Just curious what other people were doing. I think we are going to go smaller. My friend had a good point though, she said, we have to go to everyone else's parties so I am inviting everyone to ours.

We had 2 smaller ones. His 1st birthday was over 100 people. It was crazy but a lot of fun. For his second birthday it was just family. One we did cake at easter for him and the other was the next weekend with just my parents brother and a couple close friends.

I think next year ill do a friends party at a place like a bounce house or something.

we did about half the size and it was fine. about 25 people (17 which were family).

  • First was large (50 people) but mostly family. 2nd birthday was at an indoor play place and we invited any family that wanted to come and a bunch of DH and my friends that have kids. It ended up being about (35 kids/adults).

His 5th birthday will be a smaller water bounce house at home this year with 20 kids/adults.

  • We do immediate family and a few close friends with kids. But DHs immediate family is about 20 people in itself. So DDs birthdays were about 25-30 people.

  • We did small parties for years one and two, but DD is easily overwhelmed and would have shut down with more people. It was just the ILs, friends with 4 kids that she is very familiar with, and her great aunt. We did a bigger party for year two on my side of the family that was mixed in with our Christmas celebration, since her birthday is in December.

The first birthday was more of an adult celebration. All of our family and friends were invited.

The second was a kid party. About ten kids invited with their parents; we didn't send invites to family or friends but told the grandparents by mouth that they were welcome to come.

For DD1s 2nd birthday we didn't have a party. My due date for DD2 was the following week, and I just wasn't up to it. We had cake and a special dinner. When my mom came to stay with us a week later, we had more cake and gifts with her. We did a larger party for her 3rd birthday.

This year we're going to Disneyland for the girls birthdays (2nd & 4th) and will have a small combined party with our close friends and my mom.

  • We did slightly smaller parties for 2nd and 3rd birthday.  First birthday was more adult oriented - friends and family - about 50 people.  2nd and 3rd birthdays were friends who had kids close to DD's age - about 30 people.
