High-Risk Pregnancy

XP: cancel shower

My babies shower was scheduled for this Sunday. Since I was admitted for PTL Monday we decided it's best to postpone or cancel. I said cancel because I feel everything is too unpredictable with multiples. Some have suggested having it after they are home, but my concern is having many people around preemies or I'd be too exhausted. Anyone else had this situation? What worked best for you? Thanks!

  • Why don't they bring the shower to you that's what I did for a friend and it really lifted her up.

  • I'd feel the same way about having a bunch of people around preemies, or even a full term baby who was less than 6 weeks old! If it were me, I'd not cancel or postpone, but send DH in my place. I'd then call or skype in to the party from the hospital for a little bit (our hospital has WiFi, though I know not all do) and let him be the guest of honor. Then after babies are home, healthy, and you're ready for visitors, have a little open house type party for friends to come over and celebrate with you.

  • Dd was born at 27 weeks. My shower was moved to two weeks before she came home from the NICU. It worked out well and a few close family members were able to go see her in the NICU after.
  • My shower was in my hometown 4 hours drive away just a few days after I was put on bedrest so they had it anyway and then shipped the gifts to us. We also used Skype a bit so I could see/say hello to everyone.

If your shower is local all of the above ideas sound good :)
