Northwestern vs fertility clinic

I am 29.  Did an IVF ER at 28.  Had 27/37 eggs fertilize.  No fresh transfers due to almost being overstimulated, even on a low dose of every medication.  FET#1 tranferred 2 on d3..beta=0.  FET#2 transferred 3 on d3..DD Grace & a vanishing twin.FET#3..transferred 3 on d3..beta=0. FET #4..transferred 2 blastocysts on d5.  HPT negative today, beta Wed.  These were all from the same ER.  Have 8 more embryos that were frozen the day after ER and 1 hatching blastocyst.  I am thrilled with Grace and NW was doing a great job, but I'm wondering if they may be being too conservative or if I would find success somewhere else.  Anyone have any insight/opinions?  Thanks!
March 2011: Off Nuva, cycle back to "normal" for me: No periods since 15 years old. June 2011:Provera&50 mg Clomid; Progesterone:0.7 July 2011:Provera&100mg Clomid; Progesterone:3.29 Met with RE:No Clomid response, begin injectables Sep 5 mg Letrozole and Ovidrel in the interim month. Cut out running (was a distance-runner), cycling, eliptical. Restricted to weight-training, walking, pilates. Brain MRI normal. Being physically over-stressed is the reason the body stopped producing prog. Late Sep 2011: Menopur, Ovidrel,& IUI (10.10.11):BFN-Great injectable response: 2 mature, 6 near mature, many smaller; Problem: 9 cysts! Dr: IUI too uncontrolled for number of viable eggs & age. On to IVF! IVF ER 12.6: 37 mature eggs, 27 fertilized, froze all to avoid overstimulation; FET 1.22 (2 Grade 1)=BFN; FET 2.22 (3 Grade 2)=BFP! Beta 10dp3dt=291; 12dp3dt=644; HB 3.26!! 174 bpm: Vanishing twin almost completely absorbed 10wks Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker

Re: Northwestern vs fertility clinic

  • I was a patient at Northwestern ER office, specifically of Dr. Confino and Dr. Kazer. With their help, I now have three beautiful children (including one set of twins). I had the same struggle that you are having. But at the end of the day, particularly since multiple pregnancies are so high risk, I decided to stay with Northwestern instead of risk getting pregnant with triplets. If you are at the same office I went to, you should trust that they are doing whats safest for you and your (future) children. Best of luck and feel free to contact me if you ever want to talk about in greater depth - dara@sharpmamas.com.
  • We used a different fertility practice for this pregnancy, but I've heard great things about Dr. Confino if that's where you're going.  I'm not sure how much more aggressive someone else would be?  It looks like you're already transferring 3 embryos.  I think since you have age on your side, I'd keep doing what your doing and use your frosties.  If you don't have any success with any of those embies, then maybe have a consultation with another fertility doc and see what they would recommend for a fresh IVF cycle?

  • I also worked with Kaplan at FCI and am pregnant with Twins! Good Luck!
  • Dr Confino was my doctor at northwestern. He was very conservative, however I am now 10 1/2 months pregnant with one baby on our first try! We transferred one blastocyst day 5 with IVF. Having patience is so tough, but I really think staying at NMH was the best decision!
