June 2013 Moms

Fed up! (long vent)

I have been having prodromal labor since 37 weeks.  The contractions are always time-able and consistently 2-5 minutes apart lasting for hours.  They haven't been super strong?..until last night.  I got my membranes swept on Monday (dilated to 1+ and 70% effaced) and was told we could induce the following Monday on my due date if I am dilated to a 3 by then.

My plan from the beginning has been to go unmedicated.  However, in this last month of pregnancy my husband and I made the crazy decision to move across the country.  And heres the kicker?.my due date is June 24th and we are planning on leaving June 29th to make it to Florida on time for my husband's new job.

If we weren't moving I would have absolutely no problem going past my due date at all!! But it seems that sense this move has become official it has just become more and more stress to get her out sooner (fully cooked and healthy, of course!). My mom and sister flew out on Monday and are going to be here for the birth and to help us move.

Because of the stresses of getting her out and the fact that I am 39 weeks (and under the supervision of my midwife) I decided to take the castor oil route yesterday.  I took it at about 3:45 and by 6 we went on a walk and started having very strong, time-able contractions.  These were unlike the ones I had experienced before so I was sure they were doing something! By 11 that evening they were still 1.5-3 minutes apart and lasting about 1-2 min in length.  We were all getting so excited! My husband and I headed to the hospital to get checked.  We were convinced this was it!

We made it to the hospital and the nurse checked me and I was still dilated to 1+ and 70% effaced.  All of those contractions and they did absolutely nothing!!!! Of course they wanted me to stay another hour just to double check?no change at all.  They sent us home.  I kept having contractions all through the night but strength eventually started to wear off enough so I could get a little sleep.

Sorry this has become so long?.

My point is that I am totally stressed with the move and the potential for my baby girl not to be in time.  It seems like every time things seem like they are progressing and it is the "real deal," it turns out to be absolutely nothing.

That is all.  Bless you if you read the whole thing!

I'm sorry you're frustrated and all but...you probably shouldn't have planned to move five days after your EDD. Many, many women go overdue. Soooo, I hate to say it, but you kind of put yourself in this boat, lol. The added stress isn't going to help when it comes to labor. I know it's hard, but try your best to relax.

I hope you have a backup plan? As in, somewhere to stay if you go overdue and a later start date for your H's new job? And what if you end up with a c/s? You won't be able to travel for a bit and will need your husband around to help you.

Good luck with everything. I really hope you go into labor soon to lessen the chance of issues with this decision!

  • Everything PP said.

Also, can your mom & sister stay with you if you do go over your EDD, so your husband can start his new job? I would just plan on staying put & then move when you & baby are ready.

  • I would like to move later, but my husband's job gave him a start date and they won't let him change it.  The date was really forced on us and not our choice at all.  The backup plan is to continue with the move and just find a doctor quickly when we get there.  I have had people tell me to have my husband go and I stay where we are with my mom and sister, but honestly, I need my husband as my support during labor.

  • You are in a tough situation, but would you really feel comfortable finding a new doctor on such short notice? IMO it may be best to stay with your mom and sister and labor without your husband. I know it does suck. Good luck!
  • My doula says that a baby wants to come out from a calm mother. You need to keep yourself relaxed to ensure your baby is the same. People can make their labor stop by not being in the right frame of mind. Keep taking walks, get a massage or pedicure, get acupressure or go to the chiropractor. Good luck!

My concern would be that no doctors would be willing to take you on at this late stage in the game...

    Good luck, OP!

I'm pretty sure that if you show up at any hospital ready to have a baby they will take you.

Yup. Any hospital will take you, they have to by law. Going back to lurking...
