Success after IF

When did you stop your FET meds?

After my ET, my RE had me recite to her my medications plan to make sure I had it down: "Progesterone suppositories & Estrace 2x/day and PIO injections 1x/day until 10 weeks, baby Aspirin 1x/day until 6 weeks".

So, I took my last meds when I hit 10 weeks this past Sat. I had an OB appt this Monday and my doc couldn't find the heartbeat with the doppler. So she gave me an ultrasound and determined everything looked great. Baby was moving, heart rate looked strong, and she could even see the cord pulsing.

I've been a little uneasy that we couldn't hear the heartbeat, so I went back through my FET paperwork to make sure I stopped the meds at the right time. However, none of my paperwork states a specific time. It only says, do not stop until told to do so.

So I called my RE and the nurse said they usually tell patients 10 weeks, but that's because that's when they get released to their OB, and it's actually the OB's call when to stop meds.

I called my OB about it and she said they usually have people come off at 11 weeks. I asked if I should start up again and she said no. That the remaining couple of days won't make a difference and it might confuse my body to start up again after having stopped. She reassured me that everything was fine and said I can come in on Friday if I wanted and she wouldn't stop until she finds the heartbeat.

So I'm just curious, when were you told to stop your progesterone suppositories, estrogen, and progesterone injections for your FET cycles? Any experience you share would be greatly appreciated. TIA :)

Re: When did you stop your FET meds?

  • I didnt have an FET but I was told to continue progesterone until 10 weeks as well. Hearing a heartbeat at 10 weeks seems kinda early to me. I was unable to hear a heartbeat until after 14 weeks with a doppler. HTH. Id deginitely go in on Fri for another US just to peek at LO again. I used to love seeing my little guy every chance I got.

If the HB was fine on the u/s I wouldn't worry about not being able to find it on Doppler. I know not worrying is MUCH easier said than done. But if the little one was wiggling around in there on ultrasound you are doing just fine. I think 10 to 12 weeks is common for progesterone, and I'm sure you are totally okay. Just try to relax and enjoy being pregnant.
When I was released to the OB it was so weird to me to not be doing anything. No pills, no shots, no ultrasounds. Just /be/ pregnant. With IF we are so use to being a special situation it is hard to just relax and be. Hugs and best wishes.

  • I stopped progesterone at 10.5 weeks after my FET cycle. In early pregnancy it is very common not to find a HB with the Doppler before 12 weeks and sometimes not even then. My OB won't even try with the Doppler until 13 weeks. Before that she does an u/s (like your doctor did) to confirm that the baby is still ok in there. I know it is so hard not to worry, but not finding the HB on the Doppler isn't anything to worry about if your doctor saw a healthy HB on the u/s. Congratulations on your pregnancy!

  • I did a fresh cycle and only did Estrace and PIO, but I also stopped both at 10w. My OB actually said he wouldn't make the call for me to stop, as it was the RE's choice. The only issue I ever noticed was an increase in m/s, although that may have been because of the stage of my pregnancy.

I also think 10w is really early for a Doppler. My OB won't do them until 13w.

  • 11 weeks this time, 13 weeks with DS (though he was fresh IVF) because I had a lot of bleeding issues.   We couldn't hear DS's heartbeat until 12 weeks, so totally normal not to hear it at 10.

  • With fresh cycle, I went to 12 weeks, and my FET instructions this past cycle said to go to 12 weeks if I had gotten pregnant.  However, I think most literature supports 10 weeks (if that) and the rest is more of a CYA/legal formality.  Congratulations!

  • I was told 12 w, but I started weaning myself at 10w (and sometimes I would skip a day or too).  I went to another re and he said 10w.  So I don't think it matters, I actually think the earlier the better because you don't want to expose your boy fetus to excess female hormones.   I'm not sure if it matters as much with girl fetuses.
