Natural Birth

Questions to ask midwife?

Hey everyone,

I'm about 7 weeks PG with my first and have always longed for a natural birth, hopefully water. Tomorrow is my first appointment with a potential birthing center (well, orientation thing) and I'm guessing we will have some time for Q&A. Any pressing questions I should ask or write down for my first appointment? Totally new to all of this and just really blessed to be PG after a loss. Still kinda shocked!

Thank you! :)

Re: Questions to ask midwife?

  • Congrats on your pregnancy!  At this point, you could ask her whatever general questions you have about pregnancy.  At 7 weeks, you don't really talk labor and delivery yet but that doesn't mean you can't.  It was important for me to know who was going to assist me in delivering my baby and if my mw liked working with doulas.  Towards the end of my pregnancy we went over natural induction, birth plans, etc in more detail.  good luck!

Thanks ladies! I was very happy with my visit and have chosen them as my birthing center! :) Go for my 1st ultrasound July 10th. Can't wait!

  • Congrats to you! :)

Check out the book Your Best Birth by Ricki Lake. (She also did the documentary The Business of Being Born.) Your Best Birth has a great list of questions to ask your midwife. It's a pretty comprehensive list.
