Parenting after a Loss

Question for those who underwent IF treatment to get pg

After months of trying and a miscarriage, we determined that I have hormonal imbalances and endometriosis which prevented me from becoming pregnant on my own.  I needed the help of good ol' clomid and a HCG trigger shot to get pregnant.  This is kinda random but I am curious- when the time comes for DH and I to try for another baby (not for several months), will we need to undergo all of the IF tests again or will they go straight to clomid?
Me: PCOS   DH: No issues

August '16-January '17: Clomid + HCG + IUI/TI = BFN
February/March '17: Menopur + HCG + IUI = BFN
April '17: Menopur + HCG + TI (due to too many mature follicles) = BFN
May '17: Took off due to cysts
June' 17: Menopur + HCG + IUI = Cancelled due to 8+ mature follicles
November '17: Clomid + HCG + IUI= BFN
December '17: Menopur + HCG + TI= BFP!!!! Due August 2018

Hi funnygirl! You and I had identical medicated cycles; we took the same drugs in the same amounts. My doctor won't start another medicated cycle until I've been trying for at least a year on my own for another pregnancy. I'm pretty sure that's common practice.

  • I was put on Clomid with DD3 and with DS.  When trying for DD2, I had my 1st m/c and it took me a year to get pg. When it came time to try for DD3, I had seen my OB for a cyst on my ovary.  He was asking me about my history and told me I should've been on clomid for DD2, that it took way too long.  He ran some tests and found out that I don't ovulate regularly, and when I do (maybe about once a year) my egg quality sucks, hence the m/c's.

Anywho, when I knew I wanted baby #4, my OB put me right on Clomid due to my history.  I'm not sure if that's common practice or not though!

    Good luck! Big Smile

  • My OB said I can let him know when I want to go for another round of Clomid. I didn't need trigger shots but I did do foli checks for my medicated cycles and I believe that it'll be the same next time. My doctor did say that there is sometimes a chance of a full term pregnancy kicking your ovaries back into gear so you could possibly ovulate on your own but since my loss was so late I don't think that's the case with my body.
  • Unfortunately there is no way to know.  Lots of IFers dont have a problem getting pregnant on their own after undergoing treatment for a previous child... but i wouldnt count on being able to do it that way!! (Although im secretly hoping thats the case for myself and every other IFer!)
