Swaddleme/Sleepsack - what do they wear underneath?

For nighttime I was hoping to put our LO in zip up style PJs to make mid-night changes a little bit easier.  We are expecting our LO in October, so we'll be headed into the colder months here in the northeast.  I know you're not supposed to use blankets anymore and what's recommended are swaddle me or sleep sacks.  But I'm not sure what they wear under the swaddle me or the sleep sack for bed.

We went to a baby care class at our hospital and they recommended one additional layer to what we would be comfortable wearing.  We've registered for a few swaddle mes and sleep sacks just to see what LO will like best.

I usually see a long-sleeve onesie under the sleep sack, but do they wear anything on their legs?   Would I put LO in a footed pj and then in the sleep sack/swaddle me?  TIA.

We did the footed pjs under the sleep sack. Halo makes a fleece swaddle sac that we really liked for the first 6 weeks. LO didn't like to be swaddled after that.

FYI, we find the snap up style MUCH easier than the zip up style.

  • When it was cooler, we used a sleep gown under the SwaddleMe or SwaddleSack. Now we just use a short sleeved onesie under them.

FWIW, I've always preferred the zipper style sleepers. I hate messing around with snaps.

When baby was small enough that she was swaddled, it was easier to just unsnap the diaper area instead of trying to mess with the arm swaddled part to get the zipper.

LOVED HALO sleepsack with swaddle until she could roll about 3/4 months. Quite honestly it is baby preference. My child liked her feet free so she didn't like the swaddleme/pods.

Then we used the sleepsack blanket which we use today...medium now. We stopped for a while actually but I found that her wearing her sleepsack at night makes it more difficult for her to crawl and stand in her crib at night so back to the sack!

Our LO likes to swing her legs around while we try to get her dressed. Getting her to hold her leg straight so it stayed in the leg and getting the zipper up is almost impossible sometimes. With the snaps in doesn't matter if she is swinging around, we can just keep snapping her up!
