Working Moms

daycare - gifts?

Hi - I am a first time mom....LO is just shy of 7months and has been in daycare since she was 11 weeks.  I really like the daycare, I am comfortable with the staff, and in the short time she has been there I have had a positive experience.  One of her teachers birthdays is next week - do I need to get a little something for her?  What is the usual protocol?  I was thinking a $10 gift card to dunkin donuts or starbucks....

No, you don't NEED to do it but if you would like to I am sure something tiny would be really appreciated.

  • Of course you don't need to, but if I knew it was one of the teachers bdays, I would definitely pick them up a $10 DD card. But I don't think it is expected at all.

I wouldn't get a gift. Maybe a nice card. I only give gifts for end of yr and teacher appreciation week. Any events in between gets a card. And like MBenit suggested you're starting a trend. I have two kids, 3 teachers each plus morning care, front desk,etc... I don't have that much disposable income.

  • Personally I would not do gifts for birthdays, b/c then you need to remember everyone's birthdays or someone may get upset.  I do gifts at Christmas, Teacher Appreciation Week, and when my child moves up to the next class.
