Okay, I have more questions, lol.
1. Did you buy any diapers that didn't work for you? Why didn't they? What did you do with them?
2. I'm looking at covers and cannot for the life of me understand why they'd make any without double gusset legs. Am I missing something here? Is it a fit issue? Cost? I dunno...I guess you wouldn't need them as much when the poo isn't as runny, but I'd want all the protection I could get. Again, I'm probably just missing something.
3. Fave dipes! I'm planning on the prefold and cover route but I'd love to hear about y'all's favorites of any other type as well.
4. Anyone use flats? Just curious...
Thanks! January 13 mommies rock.

1. Did you buy any diapers that didn't work for you? Why didn't they? What did you do with them?
Fuzzibunz OS Elite didn't work for us (too narrow to stuff a ton of stuff in there, hated the constant adjusting during the first few months), BumCheeks were a no-go (too short in the rise, hard to get a good fit), Itti Bitti Tuttos were also sold (not enough absorbancy, lots of leaks). Basically DD is a chunk and fits BG 4.0's perfectly. So I simplified our stash to 4.0's and Flips.

Although I like my Flips, I agree. I have some Blueberry covers on the way because of the double gussets.

Daycare requires everything be one piece, so we LOVE our BG 4.0's for the "workhouse" aspect of them. I like prefolds and covers as well as Flips (once she grew to the highest rise on them). LOVE my fitteds + cover at night. Surprisingly, I also really like the Flip overnight insert, that thing holds a TON of pee.
4. Anyone use flats?
Nope, but I do like my prefolds. GMD makes awesome diapers.

I don't like the Charlie Banana I have, the snaps are really bizarre IMO. I only have 1 so it's NBD & just falls to the back of my stash. I also don't love the Blueberry I have, it's the only one I'be had leakage on her back with.

I would just stick with double gussets.

I thought I'd go the prefold route but pockets are just soooo much easier. We'd have done fine with 26 doing daily wash. I love BG 4.0
4. Anyone use flats?
Nope, not I.
Just FYI the new FB OS 2013 are cut much more like BG but still have the elastic. I have a love/hate relationship with the elastic, I don't think it's that hard but it's more effort than BG but I like the cleaner look without all the snaps.
1. When we were first starting out with DS I tried several different styles/brands. Some didn't work out for us (I didn't really care for AIOs of any brand, Happy Heiny, and Fuzzibunz pockets come to mind as not working). They didn't work because we would get leaks. DS was a pretty skinny baby though with little bird legs and I think that had a lot to do with it. I venture to say we wouldn't have the same issues with chunka DD
I sold/traded them for other diapers.
2. IME if you have a good fit with the cover double gussets aren't necessary. Take my advice with a grain of salt though because DS's poo wasn't ever very runny. DD's is, but we only used covers with her for the first few weeks and then we switched to pockets. CDs are much better about keeping poo in though. I know that we have used Flip covers for quite a while with DS and they've always been bulletproof. I know some people really like double gussets, but I think most people find that they're unnecessary (not that they're bad to have or anything, but just that they're probably not as important as you're thinking).
3. We like bumGenius pockets best.
4. We haven't ever used flats the way they're "intended" (although I have tried before and there's definitely a learning curve, lol), but we did use them pad-folded in DS's night diapers. They make great inserts.

my read shelf:
1. Did you buy any diapers that didn't work for you? Why didn't they? What did you do with them? We got some Bumkins that just don't work and a few that I don't like, but that work fine. The bumkins diapers felt like they always leaked through the fabric. Even after returning them and getting new ones, we still had this problem. The Fuzzibuns I like the fit, but I hate stuffing them. We still have them though. The bumkins I keep for emergency situations since they are good for about an hour. The Fuzzibuns are part of our rotation, but I b*tch about them everytime I do diapers.

I dunno...I guess you wouldn't need them as much when the poo isn't as runny, but I'd want all the protection I could get. Again, I'm probably just missing something. Don't know much about covers. We used Rumparooz and Thirsties covers with our GMD workhorse diapers and pre-folds during the NB stage, but I prefer the AIO or Pockets.
3. Fave dipes! I'm planning on the prefold and cover route but I'd love to hear about y'all's favorites of any other type as well. Bumgenius. I love, love, love my bumgenius diapers. I also like Kawaii baby and Charlie Banana diapers (although I don't like that CB diapers stuff differently).
4. Anyone use flats? Nope. Sorry.
