We need to move! RANT

I just received my current (nothing past due) electric bill today. $380.00. 1 story,ac set at 80,no pool, dark out curtains in all bedrooms and blinds are always shut. I asked a few of my friends in the area who have houses the same size and bigger. The highest out of my friends bills was 250.00.

I called the Electric Co. and I explained maybe there was an issue and could they send someone out. The CSR said they would for a fee,of course. I explained my friends bills were considerably lower than mine, she said, and I quote "Your friends are liars." WTF? I asked for a Supervisor and surprise, surprise they weren't available.

My old house was twice as large, and a two story with 2 AC units and my bills weren't this high. I am beyond stressed. Our lease is up at the end of July and I want to move. That bill is almost half my rent,UGH!!!Angry

  • Is there a faulty... something some place? I'd check. That's ridiculous!

  • you can check your meter yourself...it'll be a little off from what your bill says since it takes some time to process a bill after they read your meter...if the 2 #s are pretty close, then assume the problem doesn't lie with the actual bill but perhaps there's something wrong about where you're living (windows let out too much cold air, the thermostat or ac unit are messed up, etc)...

I agree with this. I was amazed how much new windows and new ac changed our bill.

  • Do you have double paned windows or single paned? I know that can make a huge difference. Hopefully you get it fixed, sorry for the electric company. They are ALL bishes.

  • We have single pane windows, that's why I keep the blinds closed to help. I left a message for the Supervisor at the Electric CO. to call me back. I put the thermostat at 82 yesterday and it honesty sucked. I have got to talk SO into moving from AZ. I seriously cannot stand this weather.

  • Compare you number of kilowat hours this month to last months bill. How does thay compare to the change in temps?
There is this tool you can buy called a kill-a-watt which lets you plug things in to it and you can see how much energy individual items use. Personally would unplug as much as possible, and you can plug most things into surge protectors and switch them off when not needed). Can also
double check the grate below the fridge to ensure it isn't all fuzzy. Consider putting blankets over the windows (or auto shades) to block more light from bringing in heat. That is high though if it does not include gas.. you made me curious though. Did a search for electric bill comparison and Arizona. There are a number of links that came up with people comparing their bills.
