STM's - What is the average time a person is usually in the hospital after a natural delivery? How about after a c-section? All of this is so new to me, so sorry about the stupid question.
With DS1 I was in the hospital for 5 days. 1.5 of that was laboring and then I ended up having a c/s and was there for 3 days...I had a really rough recovery from that one.
With DS2 it was a planned repeat c/s and I was there 2.5 days. They offered to let me stay another night but I was feeling good and was ready to get home to DS1.
Totally depends on doc, hospital and you. I had an unplanned C-section and left the hospital 46 hours later (my doc said I had to stay 48 hours, nurse let me go a tad early!).
48 hrs after LO is born is normal for a mom and baby to go home. However, most hospitals will discharge at 24 hrs if everything was ok during the birth and both mom and baby are doing well. If I decide to deliver at the hospital (vs. the birth center) I want to be discharged 24 hrs after LO is born.
2 nights is the norm at my hospital, but the Ob and pedi discharged us after one night about 30 hours after delivery at our request and no complications.
With ds1 he was born at 1am, on the 12th, we were discharged on the morning of the 13th. They needed the room.
With ds2 he was just a few hours old when I was discharged. He was lifeflighted to a NICU in another town. I didn't even have to ask. I was headed to the other hospital so if something happened I would have been in good hands.
I delivered DD at 6:26pm and they would have let me go home the next afternoon if I hadn't bled and tore so bad. Instead I left the following day (so two nights). I'm hoping for a short stay this time.

The standard for most insurances is two days for vaginal delivery and three for c-section (unless, of course, there are complications), so most hospitals base their allowances on this. The hospital where I delivered DS counted their days from midnight, so I could stay as long as I wanted the last day as long as I was out by midnight, so you at least get 48 hours. I am going to try to get discharged earlier this time, though, since being poked and prodded constantly makes it hard to get any rest!
One thing to keep in mind '2 days' does not mean 2 nights. My SIL have birth shortly before midnight and they wanted to count that as one 'day' and kick her out the next morning. Thankfully the lactation coach couldn't make it until late the next day so they let her stay until then.
2 days vaginal, 4 days csection. I was in 4 days with my 1st via csection. However, the nurse at our hospital tour last weekend told us that if you have
a csection and you ask to go home a day early, they will often let you since it's more about how the baby is doing and they are usually fine by then.

Our hospital stopped with the days/hours plan and switched to a 'milestone' plan. So once mom baby have reached the requisite mile stones wet diaper, meconium diaper, mom walking, etc... they are discharged. I would imagine its still pretty consistent with the avg though.
1 night for vaginal, no idea for c-section. It can also depend on your length of labor (if you're laboring overnight, you'll get another night) and the time you come in (if you arrive overnight, you'll get another night.)
We arrived at the hospital at 12:30pm, had the baby at 2:30pm, spent the night, and left at 11am or so. I think 11 was the time of day they expected you to check out so we actually got less time than most but we had no need to stay another day.
I had an uncomplicated vaginal delivery and was discharged 24 hours after DS was born. However, this was because XH was being annoying and kept bugging the nurse to let us go home. I would've preferred to stay another night and be discharged in the morning.
ETA: I was admitted at 12:30PM, DS was born at 6:34PM and we left the hospital around 7:00PM the following evening.
2 nights is typical for vaginal birth. They recommend 4 nights for c-section but you can sign a waiver (I believe it's called Rose's Law) and leave after 3 nights. I actually ended up staying 5 nights b/c my daughter was in the NICU right down the hall so it was easier for me and the insurance covered 5 nights.

That should read 24 to 48 hours

Same for me except I had a 5 night stay due to complications with an infection.
