Hi ladies! I am hoping if you are the praying type that you can say a quick prayer for my mom. She is currently in surgery to get her large intestine completely removed. She should be out of surgery in a few hours. If there are any complications I believe she will have to wear a bag for the rest of her life. I don't know a whole lot about the surgery as my mom and I aren't super close and she is kind of private about this stuff. Thanks in advance, I appreciate any prayers.

T&P for your mom! A colostomy is a very hard, embarrassing contraption to live with. I hope and pray she doesn't have to have one, but if she does, just be there for her (which, duh, I know you will be). It may seem like NBD, but all of my patients that have one are just simply humiliated by it.

Hers hasn't functioned in 20 years, since having her 4th kid. She usually goes a couple weeks without pooping and then overloads on laxatives just to be able to get it out. She was told she needed this surgery 15 years ago and kept putting it off.

T P for you and your mom! My grandmother had a loop of her bowel removed in 2011 because of a polyp. She had to wear a bag for a couple of months. She was very sensitive about it but she drew much more attention to it than the bag itself did. I hope for a safe surgery and speedy recovery for her!!

My FIL has a bag and it is not noticeable at all. Not sure what exactly he has but I didn't know that he had it until my DH told me about it.

Thinking of your mom, Demo! My mom had colostomy & urostomy bags after her final cancer surgery. It was not easy, but if she ends up needing that, hopefully it will help!

Thanks for all of the prayers! The surgery went well and she is in recovery. The surgery ended up taking 5.5 hours. They will know if it worked in a couple days if she has a BM. Thanks again, you ladies are wonderful!
