Re: Question about subchorionic hematoma
Did the doctor not show you their heartbeats? Did you get any u/s pictures? If you were having twins, it would be pretty obvious. At 7 weeks, they would have heartbeats. I had my first u/s at 7w3d and you could clearly see all three. (A link to the video is here.)
What I'm saying is, if your doctor said you were having twins, and is a decent, intelligent doctor, then you're having twins. If, at 7w, he mistook a SCH for a baby, he's a really shitty doctor.

Well here is why it was all confusing in my opinion. When I went to emerg, the doctor on call did an abdominal U/S but I was only 6 weeks at that point, so it didn't show much that he could see. So he sent me for a transvaginal ultrasound 5 days later. This ultrasound was done at the hospital too, but there was no doctor there. The ultrasound tech was the one who did it and told me she was not allowed to let me see the screen or tell me anything about what she was seeing. I was told I had to follow up with my doctor.
I saw my doctor yesterday and asked about the ultrasound and apparently he doesn't receive the actual ultrasound pictures, he just receives the information that the ultrasound tech wrote up about what she saw while she did it. So since the tech had no previous knowledge of any of my history and did not know I had come in due to bleeding originally I just wasn't sure if it would have been something that could be mistaken easily? I was also told there was no mention of fetal poles or heartbeats in this write up?. Just what I was measuring at and the dating.
Super unhelpful! And since my doctor (who is just a family doctor and not an obgyn) doesn't have the pictures he's just basing what he's telling me off what the tech wrote because neither he nor I have seen the pictures.
My next ultrasound is on the 27th but again, no doctor is present it's just a tech that does it. But hopefully I can get some information out of this one? Do obgyn's do their own ultrasound instead of sending me elsewhere? Maybe I need to be getting referred for a ob for the remainder of this pregnancy to avoid further confusion

Thanks for everyone's responses! I very much appreciate it

My first u/s was a bit after 6 weeks and that is when we found out we had twins. There was some light bleeding/brown spotting around week 10 but then around weeks 11/12ish (sorry, I can't remember exactly) I had a bright red bleed - then again a week later. Both times I went to the ER and they did scans - they did not mention the SCH either times but told me to go directly to my OB the second time. Sure enough, he was able to locate the SCH.
As PP have stated, if your doctor has told you that you are having twins I'd look into setting up and OB so that they can refer you to a MFM. I've only been dealing with my OB up to this point - but my first MFM is next week (normal practice in my area). I guess my point is - you need to find a doctor skilled with twins and pregnancy going forward. Not only to give you peace of mind - but to make sure the babies stay nice and healthy.
Thanks! I will make sure to ask
