DS has hives :-(

My poor DS has hives all over his torso. The most likely culprit is some bread that he's been eating for breakfast that contained tree nuts. We had planned to wait until he was 2 to introduce nuts because my DH has an allergy (not a severe one - we can have nuts in the house with no problems), and I'm usually so careful about it but I accidentally grabbed the wrong variety of bread at the store last week. I feel like such a bad mommy. I'm just glad that DS doesn't seem to be bothered by this at all.

Awww! Try not to feel too bad. DD gets hives as well after eating egg...we found this out when she got into a some kind of cake-like candy that I left out within her reach. She broke out in hives everywhere. We ended up taking her to the children's emergency room and they gave us something similar to benedryl. When I was back in the States, I met with a pedi who wrote E a prescription for an Epi-pen.

Since that first reaction, she seems to be growing out of her allergy. She can now eat things with egg in them-just not plain eggs as of yet.

    How is DS doing now?.

  • DS is doing fine. Activity level and temperament are both normal. His skin still looks splotchy but the spots are less red and are no longer raised.

I used to get reactions like this when I was little to things like chocolate and different food dyes. I've grown out of all of them, and am hoping it is the same for DS. DH's tree nut allergy is different. He vomits within minutes of eating even tiny amounts, particulary with almonds.

Your poor DS. I am glad to read that the hives are almost gone. I hope he grows out of it, too!
