New here, TTC after cervical cancer

Hi, so I'm pretty new to all this. A little BG, I have 2 DS's from prior relationships, DH has 1 DS and 1 DD from a prior marriage. DH and I got married in January 2013, got pregnant right away but had a m/c. That was my 2nd m/c so we were a little concerned and went in for some testing to see if there was a reason I was miscarrying. The infertility pap they did came back abnormal. Had a colposcopy and was told it was not cancer but that I did need to have a LEEP done. Had that done, results came back that it's non-invasive (dr called it superficial) cancer. I have a cone biopsy scheduled for June 27th in hopes of removing it all and maintaining my fertility. DH will be deploying in a couple of months but will be home on R&R in the spring so we're hoping to perhaps get pregnant at that point. Otherwise we will have to wait until he returns in late 2014. I'm just hoping to find others out there who have been successful in having a baby after cervical cancer and a cone biopsy. I've read about all the challenges I could potentially face (decreased or no cervical mucus, possible stiff cervix that would make it impossible for sperm to get through, cervical incompetence) but I'm determined that DH and I will have our miracle when this is over. I'm so grateful for the kids DH and I have (his 2 and my 2) but from the beginning we've both said we want more children. Even if it's just one more I would be more than happy with that. Has anyone been where I am? How hard was it to conceive? What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

Re: New here, TTC after cervical cancer

  • I am sorry that you have cervical cancer, I had been told I had per-cancerous probably turned into cancer now haven't had my LEEP done in 4 year's I am horrible with doctors.

I haven't overcame my problems with TTC we don't have a rainbow baby yet. After 12 losses it's not very easy.   We have no children together.   Have you thought about IUI?

  • I don't have a success story because we have many fertility issues going on, but I did have my cervical cancer noninvasive like yours removed in December of 2012. I wanted to reach out and let you know that I understand how you are feeling. It was the absolute scariest time of my entire life. I had a cone procedure done, too. I was do relieved to have that crap out of me! I would highly recommend finding a gyno oncologist. I had to drive 2 hours away to get to mine, but I'm so glad I did. I made sure he knew that my fertility was so important and that, while I wanted to be healthy, I needed my cervix! During the cone procedure, he took just what he needed and no more. I got clear margins, so he knew what he was doing! I'm so very sorry you are going through this. Please PM me if you have any questions or just need someone to vent to!

  • Thank you. I'm having my cone biopsy done at the on post hospital next Thursday so I'm hopeful they'll get it all so we can be done with it. After we've gotten the go ahead to TTC I'll probably go see the infertility doctor again to discuss options as far as IUI, IVF or any meds I may need to go on.
