IUI & no meds?

Hello!  So I'm up for IUI #1 in about two weeks, but my RE didn't want to do any meds leading up to it - just progesterone afterwards.  I don't mind skipping out on the meds and whatever side effects come with them...plus it makes it cheaper (we're 100% OOP), but it seems like most everyone here takes clomid or fermara.  My RE saw I produced two follicles on my own last month, which I guess is why he isn't thinking I need anything...but I don't know how normal that it for me, and I can't help but feel a little anxious that we aren't doing everything we can to make this work.

Am I just over thinking it?

    I feel like I am kind of in the same boat you are.  

     My RE wants to do IUI #1 with no meds on my next cycle (about to start me tww) due to the fact that my insurance wants another cd3 and fsh before they will pay.  I feel like we don't have a lot of hope with IUI #1 due to that fact.  But if you produced 2 follicles then I would think that is why.  Do twins run in your family?

    I think that if you are ovulating on your own and your DH SA is normal, it seems pretty standard to start IUI without the use of medication.

    Hoping that the first time is the charm and that your IUI is successful!

    Several ladies, if they O fine on their own do a med free IUI before moving forward to medicated cycles.  If you are OOP, while cost can suck for monitoring the meds itself (clomid) while I was OOP was only $30.  Just FYI.  It was the monitoring that cost $300 a pop.

    I wondered the same sort of thing for myself on my first round. Except my RE prescribed the meds and IUI even though I thought I was O'ing on my own just fine. So I sometimes wonder why I'm torturing myself with the side effects if it may not be necessary. The first medicated cycle didn't work and here we are on round two. At this point, I now feel that time is more of a precious resource to me so I don't mind being a bit more aggressive. And if it didn't work for the first cycle, then it is probably necessary after all.

    I guess what you can take out of that is it's up to you how aggressive you want to be. Money, side effects and time are all things I've taken into consideration. Good luck!

    IVF #5 (DE IVF #1 with Dr. KK protocol): Currently PREGNANT!!!!!!
    Synthroid + Prednisone + Metformin + Baby Aspirin + Supplements Galore = 15+ pills a day
    Lupron + Lovenox + Delestrogen + IVIG + B/W = 2-5 pokes a day
    19R, 17M, 17F - transferred two Grade A blasts 11/16, four frosties!!!
    Beta #1 11/24 (13dpo/8dp5dt) = 367 ~ Beta #2 11/26 (15dpo/10dp5dt) = 709

    I've done one unmedicated IUI, but it was thrown in last minute.  It was supposed to be a testing/monitoring cycle, but after my third bad post coital test my RE decided to do an IUI.  Obviously it didn't work, but neither ave my 3 medicated IUIs.

    September 2012: Start IF testing

    DH (32): SA is ok, slightly low morph, normal SCSA  Me (32): Slightly low progesterone, hostile CM, carrier for CF, Moderately high NKC, High TNFa, heterozyogous mutated Factor XIII, and +APA

    October 2012-May 2014: 4 failed IUIs, 3 failed IVFs, and 1 failed FETw/donor embryos

    November 2014: IVF w/ICSI #4 Agonist/Antagonist with EPP and Prednisone, Baby Aspirin, Lovenox, and IVIG for immune issues.  Converted to freeze all due to lining issues.  2 blasts frozen on day 6!

    January 2015: FET #2 Cancelled due to lining issues

    April 2015: FET #2.1

    My RE suggested we start with unmedicated IUI's for a cycle or two.  I ovulate on my own though. Make sure you are comfortable with your plan, or definitely go over your concerns with your RE!

    I'll probably move forward with no meds this time and talk to my RE more about it when/if we are doing the second round.  There's a chance I may have to travel for work right around my O anyways, so I'd hate to ask for the meds and then have to cancel the IUI.  Thanks!

    I did 3 medicated IUI's and switched RE.  The new RE did not prescribe meds but monitored my whole cycle.  I did 2 unmedicated IUI"s with her.  Now on to IVF

    Change DR 5/12 IUI 4-5 Natural Cycle BFN
    5/13 DH diagnosed with b1/b3 microdeletion of Y chromosome
    IVF #1 July  Started Lupron 7/5 AF 7/14
    ER 8/1 7R 5M 3F W/ICSI ET 8/6 Moved to 8/7 due to no blast
