**Megs**

I just saw your post from Saturday- I was in the middle of nowhere this weekend.  (Thank you for pointing it out, dbliesmer)

The  shopping guide is for the entire challenge, but on the burn days of the burn phase, you don't do starches or fruits.  Beans are okay, but A) if you use canned, get low sodium and rinse all the gook off, and B) they're not allowed on the burn days of the burn phase because for this, they're considered a starch.  The same goes for sweet potatoes. Also, if possible, try to eat them before 5:00 because carbs, especially complex ones, take a long time to digest and if you go to sleep, they can just turn to mush.

You can have hummus, just make sure it doesn't have added sugars.  I eat the Tribe roasted red pepper.  It's one of those things people have mixed reviews on- some say eat it, others say no.  The guru above me eats it, but says to limit it.  I may have it every other or every 3rd day and measure out 2 tbsp in a bowl to bring to work with me so I don't overdo it.  I also eat it with celery or cucumbers instead of starches.

As for bananas, yes you can have them.  They're listed on the food list in the manual, so they're not even in moderation, but again, they're carbs, so be careful when you eat them.  If you'll notice, the nighttime snack specifically doesn't say fruit when the others do.  Bananas, watermelon and pineapple are pretty high on the glycemic index, so high carb, but bananas are crazy good for you.  I say go for it if you want them.  I'm brainwashed by the GI, so I don't eat them often.

  • A) I really love your new pics, you two are too cute

    B) Thank you, I was starting to think I'm a carb nazi. I am, but at least I was right hahahaha :) You would think I would be a whole lot skinnier with my wealth of knowledge, but sadly I am not.

Thank you. :)  We are rarely in pictures together, so 5:30 AM at the hospital selfies will have to do.

I am a carb nazi too, but I don't have the body of a Victoria's Secret model and it's totally unfair. :) The stupid South Beach diet brainwashed me years ago and now I'm scared of most fruit.  I love grapes, but feel guilty eating them.  It's a tad ridiculous.

  • Thank you so much.  Somehow I missed your response as well.  I stopped being so lazy and finally read the manual and started yesterday. So far so good!

Stupid South Beach ruined all of us!
