Naps and a three year old

My three year old ( turned 3 May 1st) will not take a nap on a regular basis. I have tried reading him a story or three, we potty, have a drink, etc. We try the same time every day. By 7pm he's normally overtired and grumpy if he hasn't napped. I've tried doing quite time for an hour so he can have some down time and his little sister can take a nap without him making all kinds of noise but he keeps getting up and coming to where I am. I don't know if it's time to stop napping or if I need to get more strict with him about napping. I think he still needs to nap because if we try to go do anything in the afternoon when he hasn't napped, it's a disaster.

  • DD dropped her nap just before three. And so bedtime had to move up - sheiks in bed by 7pm now.

  • DD dropped her nap right before her 2nd birthday, so I completely understand!  She occasionally (maybe 2-3 times a month) will still take a nap.  I make her do quiet time in her room every day while her brother naps.  It was a long battle to get her to stay in her room, but she's pretty good at it now!  She doesn't have any toys that require batteries in her room...  just books and things like that.

  • Callum totally stopped napping by 2.5 and Eleanor already doesn't nap most days.  My rule is I don't force it.  We did an earlier bedtime (like seriously 6 on some days) while they were transitioning away from naps.  We do still have quiet time though.
  • Unfortunately, this is normal. Maybe on days that he refuses nap, you try to force some quiet time for sanity's sake. Make him just sit with a book or puzzle or something like that.

  • DD2 needs a nap, but she won't take one. There's absolutely nothing I can do to get her to fall asleep. For a month or so, she'd fall asleep watching TV. Then that stopped... She was probably 2y7m at the time; it was right before DD3 was born. She'll occasionally crash on the couch before dinner, but in general, she doesn't nap. We're trying to move up bedtime to compensate since she insists on getting up at 6am every day.

  • I came to this board for this exact situation dd just turned 3. I took her out of daycare last week just had a new baby. She use to nap at daycare but then would be up till 9 or so every night. On weekends she would skip her nap and go to bed at 7.
Now that she is home she is consistently missing her nap. she is cranky in the late afternoon and today she fell asleep just before 6. I don't know what to do... It seems like she need a little tiny nap and that's all.
