I am sleep -deprived due to my 5 mos old, so my brain is mush. Can anyone give me some ideas for activity centers I can work into our day? We have art time but I need a couple more things we can regularly do together. With my baby's needs, DS spends a lot of time playing on his own. When DD is asleep I want to do special projects together.
What are some you do?
ETA: DS is 19 mos
Re: Need "centers" ideas beyond art
Do you have stacking blocks? My DS can spend quite a bit of time building and knocking down towers.
Play-Doh? Mine still eats it and grinds it into the hardwood floor, but it's worth a try.
Baking--put the bowl on the floor for him to dump and stir while you measure.
In a few months, it'll be so much better! My DD and DS entertain each other so well
I know it isn't a "center" but perhaps you can find a chore you can do with your LO. My LO loves to help with anything I am doing and I try to "teach" her as we go. When I fold laundry she shakes the clothes out and attempts to fold and put into a pile. Even though it takes me longer she loves to help and I never have to ask her. She also loves to help the babysitter unload her dishwasher and take clothes out of /put clothes into the dryer. Just little things like that where you are still doing things together..
How about some sidewalk chalk or bubbles to get you outdoors (I remember that being difficult with just 1 child so I'm not sure how to handle that with two). I'll be looking for others' suggestions as I'm expecting for November. 8-) GL!
Water table (and/or sand)
Dance/music time - the baby will probably love to watch
Play kitchen
puzzles/match cards
mega blocks/duplos/brix
salt dough shapes
Outside things, chalk, bubbles, water table, different buckets and a box of rocks, sprinkler.
Inside, play dough, washable markers, Legos, blocks, cooking bowls.
Honestly one of his favorite things right now is for me to lay on the floor and him climb all over me.
