Ok EP mommies, am I being selfish here?
LO is 9 1/2 months old. I've had 4 rounds of Mastitis, tons of clogs, a broken and now replaced pump...
is it selfish of me to want to start weaning now? i'm still pumping 6x a day. every 3-4 hours during the day 7-8 at night. my plan was to try to make it to a year, but its going to take a while to do the weaning. I plan to add 15-30 minutes every other week to my pumping schedule.
i'm just so tired of the clogs and mastitis. and i'm going back to work soon. i'm in full job hunt mode at this point, and it would be nice to only have to pump once at work.
i'll still be pumping on her first birthday i'm guessing. but we may have to supplement, which is fine, but i'm just starting to feel guilty and I haven't even started the process yet.
Re: weaning from pumping? help!
I know everyone is different, but it definitely did not take me that long to wean. Once I started adding time between pumps, my supply decreased pretty rapidly. The whole process took maybe 2-3 weeks... and I am also extremely susceptible to clogged ducts and mastitis so I was careful about it. It's crazy how sensitive your body can be when it comes to supply.
Proud Mama to cleft cutie
I had quite the oversupply. I think I one pump session a week. Then just wore breast pads until I dried up. I was amazed how fast my supply tanked.

Not selfish at all!!
I've sort of been forced to wean. Pregnancy has caused my supply to drop and so we started this weekend doing 1/3 WCM 2/3 BM in all of Jacks bottles and we'll slowly start adding more WCM until that's all he's on. I'll probably drag the process out as long as possible but I've dropped one pump session at work and its amazing!
**pat on the back for making it so long**
Second how are you planning to wean? I'm down to four sessions a day and I have a month or so frozen. I plan to cut to three a day this weekend by cutting the 4pm session down from 15 min to 13, 11, 9, 7, 5, 3 this week at work. I just made that up myself so not sure if this sounds good or not lol! I have an over supply with clogged ducts all the time. I'm over it and am ready to wean. My lo will be 11 months old on July 30 so it's time for me to get my boobies back!
No, it's not selfish.
Do what you need to do for your sanity/health/well being. It makes you a better mom in the end.
Six times a day is a lot at this point. I pump three times a day and I'm having trouble finding the motivation to do so.
SCANDAL!
First off - congrats for making it this long. EP have my admiration. Not sure if I could handle it.
I pump at work. So my schedule was nurse in the am, then pump at 8, 12, 4 then nurse at dinner and/or bed time. At my morning pump, I would get 7-9 ounces. At the other pumps, I would get about 5 ounces.
I am trying to cut one of my pump sessions out. So I am pushing my 8 to like 9ish and my 12 to like1 or 2ish. Then when I get home and/or bedtime.
Just really starting this this week. Not sure if it works but I will see!
You are a rock star for making it this long- don't feel guilty!
I EPed up until Evie was 8.5 months. I was able to wean within 3.5 weeks- just dropped one pump per week. It was shockingly easy.
