Re: (Untitled)
First off, congrats on the upcoming birth of your baby! I wish you both a safe delivery.
I had a version performed at 36 weeks, 1 day since my son was frank breech and I was in early labor. While it was unsuccessful and ultimately I needed a csection, I am happy that I agreed to trying the version. I felt like the risks of a version were lower than that of a csection, and even though it was uncomfortable (I declined the pain meds and couldn't be given the steroid used to relax my uterus due to a maternal medical condition) I would do it again if need be.
For me, trying the version before surgery brought me some peace of mind and I was able to accept the risks of a csection a lot easier since I had explored all other avenues. If I didn't try, I know I would've had a lot more anxiety.
I hope this helps you!
DD was breech. DS had been born vaginally, so my OB felt I was a very good candidate for a version. I was all for it; overall it reduces your chance of a c-section to about 50/50 and is very safe.
My OB does them at 39 weeks and, for a successful version, immediately breaks the water and induces labor. She feels the chances of baby turning back are too high to be worthwhile earlier. An epidural was strongly recommended because it increases the chance of a successful version.
I had an adverse reaction to the epidural (DS was born med-free, so this was my first epi). My blood pressure dropped immediately, DD's heartrate dropped, and she was too distressed to tolerate attempting a version, so I ended up being rushed to the OR for a section. A major bummer, but DD was fine and my recovery was quite easy.

My LO was frank breech at 40 weeks. We tried the version but it was unsuccessful. The nurse said there were 3 other versions attempted on the floor that day and mine was the only one that didn't work. Mine didn't work because I carried very small. My belly looked like a small basketball at 40 weeks. She just didn't have room in there. It was nice because I didn't have any stretch marks after delivery. But that was the only upside. That tiny belly made the last 2 months very painful.
If you try it definitely prepare yourself. It was difficult and painful in my case. It was not the worst pain of my life but it was painful. It is nearly impossible to relax your ab muscles while they are pushing and pulling. I didn't have any meds. I would definitely try it again though.
