s/o organizing...storing baby stuff

If you plan on having more kids, what are you guys doing with your LO's old baby stuff and clothes?  I have tons and I mean tons of outgrown clothes already (at least 6 large bins). Currently they are in our "junk" room.  We have an attic but our summers get super hot so I'm worried the clothes will get ruined if we store them up there.  I guess I could make room for some of the bins in the top shelves in my closet, but I'm gonna run out of room pretty soon. And what about stuff like infant carseats, RnPs, swings, etc? I already plan on selling one of everything we have doubles, and getting rid of any twin-specific stuff.

FWIW, we don't plan on TTC for at least another  two years.  And that's a big if because we want to wait and see how terrible these two are Stick out tongue  Also there's no guarantee we'll conceive on our own due to our infertility troubles in the past and we won't be using meds next time.

So, what to do with all this stuff?

  • We're storing it!  I have a huuuuge box of maternity and baby clothes that I really need to organize into separate tubs for each size.

  • I only have one so I dont have as many clothes as you probably. But I store all of her old clothes on the top shelves of her closet. There are two big cabinets up there.

As for bigger stuff like the carseat and jumper, its been boxed, taped, and put in the garage. I bought a swing in a consignment store and it crapped out on us when she was about 4 months old, so that was trashed.

  • I've kept clothing in the attic for years and it's been fine, and I've seen the thermometer say 115+ in there.  All of B's clothes are in tubs and are in the attic, along with his RnP, etc.  I'm not keeping carseats because by the time we plan to TTC, they may end up being expired or something, so I sold my travel system on Craigslist.  His toys that aren't battery-operated are going in there as well.

His battery-operated stuff is a toss-up because I'm sure the heat will affect them.  For now, they're in the storage unit we have, but we only have that to remove some extra clutter and furniture while our house is on the market, so if we move, I'm not sure what we'll do with them.

  • All good ideas, thanks! Good to know clothes do well in the heat.  I suppose we could also use the garage, but after seeing my parents garage packed with so much stuff that no car could ever be parked in there, I swore I would never do that in my own home.  Some organized shelves in there would be nice though.

  • We stored everything in big rubbermaid containers or bagged/boxed up well in the garage but I would think most things in the attic would be just fine. My mom stored my stuff that way for years.

We only had to store for two years until we found out Lily was a girl and then I sold a lot of our boy clothes.

  • Wow that's a lot if clothes!! In saving everything but have been getting rid of stained clothes or some that we were gifted or handed down that I don't like. All her clothes and my maternity clothes go into space saver bags. I've so far filled 1 under the bed tote and 1 big tote filled so far. Her swing was handed down to us and not in the best shape so we got rid of that. We will also be passing on her walker but her jumper folds down nicely so when we put that away it will fit under her crib. Infant carseat fit in the guest room closet. We got rid of the infant tub.

FTR we don't plan on TTC for another 2 years IF we decide to go for number 2 but this baby stuff is expensive so I have no desire to buy stuff we could have saved.
