GTKY: Wine!

Yes, it is before 10am.  Yes, I'm thinking about a glass of wine.  I'm in a wine slump.  I tend to drink the same things over and over. So tell me...

What is your favorite, every day red wine?

What is your favorite splurge red wine?

What is your favorite, every day white wine?

What is your favorite splurge white wine?

What is your favorite summer wine?

Re: GTKY: Wine!

  • What is your favorite, every day red wine? Don't drink red. Had one at my neighbor's house the other day, though, that I liked. Not sure what it was called.

What is your favorite splurge red wine? See above.

What is your favorite, every day white wine? $10 or below Reisling, Luck Duck Pinot Grigio

What is your favorite splurge white wine? Blue Vin Reisling. Have a bottle of Breen Reisling in the fridge but haven't tried it, yet.

What is your favorite summer wine? SUPER cold Reisling or Pinot Grigio

The only red wine I've had that I didn't mind was Barefoot's Cab Sav.

What is your favorite splurge red wine?I've never had expensive wine! Ahhh, i need to put that on my bucket list.

What is your favorite, every day white wine? Chateau St. Michelle Riesling or Naked Grape Pino Grigio.

What is your favorite splurge white wine? The most expensive wine I've ever had was Woodbridge by Robert Mondavi Riesling. It was only okay...it was also only 20.

What is your favorite summer wine?
That's a toughy!! Ummm...probably the Riesling chilled all day in the fridge in a nice stemless glass outside by the fire. Mmmmm.

  • I don't play favorites, lol!  We stick with a lot of affordable stuff.  For reds we tend to grab a lot of Syrah: Spellbound and Layer Cake are the two that come to mind, And we're currently working on a bottle of M?nage ? Trois.  Black Box or Bota box merlot is never turned down here either, lol!

DH doesn't drink white so we don't buy as much, but I'm finding I really prefer it in the nasty Texas heat.  My hands down favorite is DR Loosen Reisling, but when I'm craving a little less sweet, Toasted Head Chardonnay.

All that being said...I'll drink just about any wine :-)

  • What is your favorite, every day red wine?  I keep trying new ones.  I tend to reach for Shiraz or Pinots.  Red Knot makes a good one.  Trader Joe's cheapo line (2 buck chuck which is now like 5 bucks) is pretty good.

What is your favorite splurge red wine?  Layer Cake Shiraz is my splurge, though it's under $20 and I'm looking for a REAL splurge! Garnacha de Fuego is also good.

What is your favorite, every day white wine?  I had a Pinot called Wine Sisterhood that was under $10 and pretty good.

What is your favorite splurge white wine?  Dom Perignon - I said SPLURGE!  Really though, this is the most expensive white I've tried and liked (I've dated a few men who were flashy with their money).  I'm a red person but REALLY want to find a white I like for summer.  If I "splurge" on a white I can actually afford, though, it's a moscato d'asti in the $20 range.

What is your favorite summer wine?  I usually go for a sangria or a fruity white.

  • I am going to stalk this thread. I have favorite varietals but I don't have favorite brands. I tend to use the 2 for $20 bin at our local wine shop and it is ever changing. I like that because it means we try things we normally wouldn't.

I started it so I could stalk it!  I've already added a couple to my list!  I'd never even heard of Kiki's splurge white. And I'm jealous your local wine shop has a 2 for $20 bin!

  • What is your favorite, every day red wine?  FFMC:  I love Black Box (yes, box wine) Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot or Shiraz.

What is your favorite splurge red wine? Francis Coppolla Private Reserve Cabernet Aauvignon

    I don't like white wine.

Summer?  I guess Sangria.  I'll drink red all year round.

I have a brand name tucked into my wallet, if you want it.  We came across this one NYE when we got a wine flight with our five course dinner.  It was, by far, our favorite!

    Yes, please!

  • I am a huuuuge wine drinker....but kind of a wine snob. I only buy wine from wineries I've visited so most of the specifics won't make sense here.

What is your favorite, every day red wine? Simon Creek Winery's Untouchable Eed (Door County, WI). It's a Cabernet

What is your favorite splurge red wine? None in particular

What is your favorite, every day white wine? Chardonnays, Gewurtztraminer, and Viogner

What is your favorite splurge white wine? Te only white wine I will buy at a store is Kendall Jackson Chardonnay

What is your favorite summer wine? Mamertino....it's kind of bubbly!

Did you ever hear the story about why the Trader Joes wine is so cheap? They used to call it Two Buck Chuck....the Charles Shaw. Apparently if he priced it that low it made just enough profit for him to come out slightly ahead....but the profit margin was low enough that he didn't have to give his ex-wife any of the money as part of his alimony!

Smart man! She must have reeeeeally pissed him off!

  • What is your favorite, every day red wine? Pretty much any Chianti under 6 bucks from Trader Joes they are all good

What is your favorite splurge red wine? Archeo Nero d'Avola. Not sure it's a "splurge" but it sounds fancier if we have it

What is your favorite, every day white wine? I'm not a big white drinker anymore, but I prefer Sauvignon blanc

What is your favorite splurge white wine? Um... Dom perignon. That's a white, right? Even though it's bubbly?

What is your favorite summer wine? Gewurtztraminer or there was this strawberry toned Pinot I tried at a winery in southern AZ I think. It was pretty good.

Have you been to the wineries in southern AZ? They aren't very far from Tucson? You could do a mini winery tour with tastings. In fact, if you wanna go this summer I wouldn't mind making a trip with you lol. It's like a little piece of heaven there. You wouldn't expect it in a desert state.

I haven't and DH doesn't drink wine!  I would LOVE LOVE to go to a winery this summer with you!  You might have just made my day ;)  I'm frequently letting DH go to Phoenix for day long golf excursions and all I've wanted was to tour a winery dammit!  I just didn't have anyone to go with :)  We should set this thing up before the University calls our names back!

I'll look at their websites and see if they have any festivals going on. Maybe we could shoot for sometime mid July?

I'd always wondered about that...  He could have just not wanted to pay alimony, too...

Late July/Early August would be better.  I'll be in MO until at least the 17th of July.

ETA: Other AZ bumpies... What do you think about this as a GTG?  Of course, it would be sans-LOs but still... WINE!
