16 Weeks Pregnant

allergic reactions

Has anyone noticed they've become allergic to anything since they've become pregnant? 2 weeks ago I started to get these little blisters under my engagement ring and wedding bands and it was extremely itchy. My rings are white gold and I've been wearing the engagement band for over 3 years and my wedding band about a year. I've never had any problems with them before. My finger was all scaly and peeling for about a week. I put some cortizone on it and it seemed to clear up. I put my rings back on today and by 10:00 my finger was itchy and there was a blister! I asked the OB about it last week and he basically said that I was nuts. He didn't believe in "just" becoming allergic to things like that. Just wondered if anyone else has dealt with anything like this.

Re: allergic reactions

  • I started having the 'ring rash' before I became pregnant and I feel like its from washing my hands so much and the water residue that stays under my rings. (I'm a nurse) but I did have an allergic reaction when I was about 14 1/2 weeks pregnant. I started to get a rash on my lower abdomen and it spread to my left hip down to my leg. My doctor said because of all my hormone changes while being pregnant, it is totally normal to all of a sudden get a reaction from something u might not have before. He prescribed me a cream and it cleared in a couple days. So I wouldn't worry it seems to be totally normal. :)

  • I feel like all of the sudden I have allergies to dust or something. I've never been allergic to anything, but I also congested and sneezing all the time. It's not just a cold because it's been two and a half weeks. I'm waiting until my next appointment to askmy OB about it.
  • I have the exact same rash under my wedding rings. I have never had this rash before I got pregnant! My doctor just said that pregnant girls have all sorts of skin issues because of their hormones and said to put cortizone on it whenever it acts up.

  • Peanut allergy for me! out of the blue!
  • Pregnancy is one of those medical mysteries that effects all of us differently. When I am not pregnant I am allergic to nothing....right when that test come back positive I can't go outside with out sneezing. My poor husband is very good at getting tissues for me :)
  • YES ! ! !  I noticed that whenever I pick up my son's guinea pig, and let him cuddle underneath my neck....I began to experience a BURNING ITCH on my neck......as if I'm on the verge of breaking out in HIVES ! ! ! I've have experienced hives due to an allergic reaction to augmentin.....and my reaction to the guinea pig was the heading in that SAME DIRECTION ! !  I have never experienced this prior to being pregnant.  I thought that it was a fluke....so I tried it AGAIN....and I had the same REACTION....an INTENSE BURNING ITCH....on my neck.  @_@

I can hold him for only about 30 seconds before I experience this CRAZY ITCH ! !

  • I became lactose intolerant a couple of weeks ago. I hate it on top of having severe heart burn and having a reaction to Prilosec ( I was able to take it during my first pregnancy and up until 1 month ago) i have had to completely redo my whole diet to just bland foods
  • Exact same thing with my rings. They are also white gold. I thought I was crazy the first time it happened, but it is happening again with my second pregnancy! I can't wear my rings at all, I wear them on a necklace.
  • My in-laws smoke, and though whenever I'm there, they smoke near the open door or outside, just being in the house gives me an eyeball-exploding headache and wracking cough, and it never used to bother me going over there.  I can't handle even the odor of cigarette smoke in the fibers of clothing or hair, either.
  • I have been getting what I think are "hives" in the past few weeks in various places on my fingers and wrist but only one bump here, one bump there. Thankfully, it's not a full rash. But they itch like crazy and they haven't gone away yet. It's pretty strange because I'm not topically alergic to anything that I am aware of. I just assumed it was hormones, and I keep forgetting to tell my midwife about it, so I don't have any official advice on the subject!
