how much on newborn pics?

I found a photographer I LOVE but she is $500. I am wondering if this is a crazy amount or normal. I received free newborn, 6 month and year sessions for my son through my blog so I saved a lot of money there. I feel like newborn on are the most important photos besides wedding photos and I want some of us and my son with the baby.

What are you planning on spending?

Not sure if I'm repeating something from the earlier thread, but here in Chicago you can join the Bump Club and if you get a VIP membership (it's a one-time $100 fee) you get tons of coupons for things like photo sessions. There's one photographer who I really like and I'm probably going to use. That said, $500 doesn't sound like much to me when I think of how much my wedding photos cost (I think around $2000).

So, I'm going to be that jerk who brags about free pics. DH's sister is 18 and has a photography business already (very talented girl) and she's moving to our city for college and has volunteered to be our photographer for absolutely everything as long as she can use the photos for her portfolio and advertising (of course I plan on paying her something reasonable). All in all, small price to pay for professional baby pics!

To me that sounds outrageous. We will be using the same person that did our wedding and it'll be around 200250. Which includes a copyright release. We aren't in a HUGE city, but still a very large city.

I've been looking at Yelp for Chicago studios. Prices definitely vary a lot but I'm going to rely heavily on reviews.

Mine will be free, I'm a photographer so I'll be able to use my own in home studio. I will say though, you get what you pay for with photographers. If you looking for the cheapest one around, you run the risk of getting shots that are poorly composed and the lighting comparable to looking like a disposable camera took it. It's also dependent upon the area to dictate where pricing will begin. While $500 for newborn portraits would be on the higher end in my area, it's not unheard of.

So funny I just posted about this. I'm looking into it and it will cost me about 550 total for a sitting fee and digital cd. I wasn't sure if that was good but now see it is so I am def going to book! She is located on LI if you want to check out her photos it's Mattson Photographers!
