Pincher grasp.

Or Pincer, whatever. My kid still can't do it. He's 10.5 months old. Anyone else at our age or older? His pediatrician told us to work on it at his 9 month appointment. He eats puffs, snacks, breakfast, and sometimes lunch completely by hand, so it's not like the opportunity isn't there.

Re: Pincher grasp.

  • Don't worry. He'll get it eventually. And like you said it's not like he's not given the chance to practice. DS is almost 11 months and his isn't perfect yet and I'm not worried.

  • Ds isn't as old, but he still has a half azz pincer grasp. It takes him for.ev.er to pick up puffs.

He's only fed himself [since 6 months], so it isn't like he's new to this.

  • While Emery has a good pincer grasp, Joaquin picked up stuff like a cave man until he was like 4.

He swings a mean baseball bat now.  But his table manners suck.

I think its a fine vs gross motor skills thing.  Every kid is different.

  • How does he pick things up then when he eats?

Dd is 10m 10 days and she can pick fluff up and things no matter how much I vaccum like it food

  • I wouldn't worry. Mine are 11 months this week, one can do it, the other grabs Cheerios and puts them in. It will come!
  • M is still working on it.  She can pick up some things, but has a harder time with others.  Just depends.

  • Amir is just now getting it. I think it took nene closer to 11m as well.
Like Kiki said, its no worries really till 12.
