Getting rid of the bottle?

Hi Ladies,

How did you start weaning your LO off the bottle? I know many do it cold turkey but I know DD needs time for adjusting. Can you recommend how you started the process?

Re: Getting rid of the bottle?

  • I did at 15m with both my kids. At that point they were only getting it at night. Over a week I put less and less milk and then just have them a sippy with water. They both had 0 issues. GL!

  • My LO is a big boy (27 pounds at 12 months) So at 11 months our pedi said we can start introducing whole milk in a sippy and see how he liked it. He took to it right away an after about three weeks of weaning, adding a sippy vs bottle a little more each week, he was just fine drinking the milk from a sippy.
  • I waited until my son was 17 months and could easily use a straw cup. I took away 1 bottle per week. No problems.
  • We slowly weaned him down to just a nightly bedtime bottle, by the time he was 12 months old. We stopped that soon after, but had to put him back on due to illness and risk of dehydration.  We just got rid of the nighttime bottle, again, at 18 months and its been smooth sailing.
