For those still not STTN...

mobile: For those still not STTN

I remember when he was newborn and thinking, By 6 months he will STTN.  Well, that came and went and soon, he will be 8 months and still not STTN.  Most nights he is only waking up once (after our sleep training) but recently, he has awakened a lot more and I don't have the heart any more to let him CIO for more than 30-35minutes now.  Then LO is up and ready to play at 5am, no matter what.  And then during the day, naps are still hard for him.

I guess I am just getting a bit frustrated, and probably really feeling the effects of chronic sleep deprivation now.  We are nearing the one year mark and after sleep training, I had hoped that LO would soon STTN and wean himself off nursing at night.  I don't think that is going to happen and it looks to be probably some more sleep training then to try to get to that point!

This post is really just to vent and see if anyone else can commiserate!  Misery loves company!

Since she turned 3 months, C has STTN maybe 4 times.

You are not alone. I have zero helpful advice, only commiseration.

Same here. I am so fed up with him waking up every 2 to 3 hours. It's like I have a newborn again! I made the mistake of looking through DS1's baby book and he was sleeping 7pm to 7am every day starting at 3 months. I stopped nursing him at 9 months though, and at 6 months was only doing morning and night, so I'm not sure if that had any effect? I know we need to start sleep training again too. It just never seems like the right time to start.

  • DD slept through for 6-8 hours from the 2nd to 3rd month.  Since then, she still gets up between 2-3 times a night.  I don't feel sleep deprived though, mostly because nursing is so convenient in the middle of the night.  It was a million times worse before we knew of her MSPI problem.  So this isn't too bad... but gosh, I cannot wait for a night of quality sleep.

  • This is why I just nurse in bed and let him stay. I am insanely tired and this allows me to me at least functional at work

MrsLady's post below linked an article about crappy sleep around this time. We're in the same boat though. She's STTN 3 times since birth. I will put her down in her crib initially but she usually ends up in bed with me after she wakes up the first time. I'm just too tired.

Yeah, I did see that.  My LO has STTN only once and I can STILL remember waking up that blissful morning!  What a tease!

I know about the too tired - like I said in my original post, I know with Ferber I should be letting him CIO w the checks, but I am just too tired to fight it now.

  • I thought the same thing and O still isn't sleeping through the night. I'm wondering if she's going through a growth spurt right now though. She used to get up between 2-4 and up for the day 6-6:30 and now she's getting up between 12-2 and up for the day around 5. I also thought I would get used to the lack of sleep, nope, I'm still exhausted all the time.

ETA I just saw mrslady's post, makes sense!

  • Zoe has given me one 5hr stretch in the past almost eight months and a handful of 4hr stretches.  She's mostly up every 2-3hrs still.

Currently going through our second deployment. Can't wait for Zoe to meet her daddy!

  • My dd1 never spelt through the night and I don't expect dd2 to do so either.

  • Still not STTN here, either. I haven't slept longer than 4 hours in pretty much a year now. He usually wakes 2-3 times; sometimes more and very rarely once. It is definitely taking its toll on me. The thing is, C has been reaching all of his milestones on his own time... I keep telling myself that he will be ready when he is ready. I took a 30 minute nap today and was just downright mean when DH woke me. Ha. I'm sure he deserved it Smile. But, yeah... I'm right there with you in the misery department.

  • DS slept better for a while and then almost two months ago he has become horrible. He wakes up every 2-2.5 hours and wont go to sleep unless he is in my bed. I am exhausted because neither me or DH are getting good sleep with him in our bed and the wake ups are tiring.

  • We have yet to STTN.  All of the posts about it/accomplishing it/etc., even those that have only happened once or twice, depress me.  So ready for DS to sleep from bedtime 'til morning.  Worse, he's moved his wake-up and go time about an hour earlier than before, so now I'm struggling with the added pressure of being up with him.  DH is sometimes with us, but usually not.  I'm ready to punch him in the nose.  I'm off for the summer, but would love some actual sleep myself.

That said, I should put myself to bed now.  It's 9 o'clock.  I'm a rock star, if you weren't aware.

Yup none of my kids STTN until well after a year.  So I am in it for the long haul with this one too.  That said the older two do great now, so it will happen, just takes some of them longer.

Hey I just met you, and you're my baby. This is your family, we're kind of crazy...Lilypie Kids Birthday tickersLilypie - (tl9S)Lilypie - (zrx8)imageimageimage

  • Yikes, I am so sorry so many of our babies are not STTN!!  But thanks for all your empathy!  Co-workers drive me nuts, trying to convince me there is something wrong with my baby for not STNN so I am glad I am not very alone.

  • She has only ever STTN twice. She was only waking up once during the Merlin Sleep Suit phase, around 3 or 4am and it was wonderful I felt really rested. But since we've ditched the suit about a month ago she is back to waking up 2 sometimes 3 times a night. I haven't had more than 3 1/2 hrs straight sleep in over a month and it is really starting to wear on me. It might be time for some CIO here.

  • I just wanted to add that my DD also isn't sttn. She was just waking once but now it's back to twice. I know she's teething but I also wonder if there's a growth spurt too. I think I'm so used to being sleep deprived that when I do get a good night's rest I'm actually more tired.
