Daycare and weekend routine question

My DD just started daycare. She's 12 months. She's at an in-home daycare with 3-4 other kids ages 18 months - 3 or 4. It's going really well. She loves it there. The routine they have is: 8 a.m. breakfast 9 a.m. park/walk 11:30 a.m. home from park 11:45 a.m. lunch 12:30 p.m. nap afternoon: play, crafts, snack 4:30 p.m pick up. Daycare lady did request that we stick to the nap schedule on the weekend as I've always rocked/nursed my daughter to sleep, so she's not very skilled at going to sleep on her own. It sounds like that is mostly sorted out (it only took a day or two) and now she goes down and sleeps for 90 min - 2 hours at daycare. Do you/would you stick to that same routine on the weekends? I am asking because I just went to get groceries and she promptly fell asleep in the car... it's only 10:30 a.m. I'm leaving her be, but wondering if I should have woken her up and stuck to the schedule.

  • that morning nap seems to have replaced the 12:30 nap...

Don't wake a sleeping baby or toddler. If a toddler falls asleep in the car, it usually means they are exhausted and really really need it.

I would. It's easier for everyone (and their schedule sounds great!)

It is great.  We're really happy with this daycare.  I have even heard rumours that one of the little girls was calling the daycare lady "mom".  To the dismay of her actual mother, but it made me smile - at least you know the kids are happy there.

After yesterday I think we will at least loosely try to adhere to the schedule.  She wouldn't take another nap after her morning nap in the car, but was asleep by 6:00 for the night.  That then translates to more than normal wake-ups, and now she's a bit tired this morning.

I'll have to get in the habit of taking her to the park/on errands earlier on the weekends.

  • To answer your question, we try to stick to DC schedule at home as best as possible.  Usually it's within an hour or so of their schedule, we tend to nap earlier and longer at home. LOs tend to do better with consistency.

My LO didn't start DC until 18m but at 12m there's no way my kid could've done 1 pm nap. He still wants to nap in the mornings.  In fact, when he gave up a nap, it was his pm one. We just pushed the am nap back because him napping at 9a and not again wasn't working.  And that was at 16m.  He will doze off in the car in the morning if it's over a 15ish min drive, which meant technically he took two naps on Saturday.

  • I have tried to keep the same schedule at home that DD has at daycare, which means napping is after lunch, around 1:00.  But she just cannot stay awake that long.  I can't figure out if it's because it's not as busy in the mornings at home or what.  Even when we're out and about, doing errands or appointments, she is a total basketcase by 11:00.  I've decided not to fight it and nap time is earlier with me.  In theory it would be great to keep the same schedule but we just can't make it work.

  • DD is with my mom during the week while I'm at work.  I try to keep the same schedule my mom has but sometimes it doesn't work out.  I always feel bad waking DD up if she has fallen asleep in the car.  It's hit or miss.  I mean, you can try to wake her up and see what happens.  Sometimes, even if I wake DD up she will not nap later so I figure I might as well just leave her be since the schedule is already screwed up.
