Do you call your baby something other than his or her name on birth certificate? Was it intended? I've made a real effort to call my daughter her full name and I was annoyed when the Gymboree teacher shortened it. I know dumb annoyance but I hate the nickname she chose. My parents are like when she hits school others with be doing it too. Ugh
Re: Nicknames?
My dd's name is Alexis, and we call her Lexie. When she hit first grade she wanted to go by Alexis, but we lived in such a small town everyone knew her by Lexie so she couldn't get them to call her by Alexis. When we moved here she started going by Alexis at school, but I have noticed a couple of kids have started calling her Lexie...
Logan doesn't have a nickname, Someone tried to call Gunnar " gunny" a while ago and he told them that was to his name. Carson doesn't have a nickname either. Unless you count meatball on occasion
What nickname did the lady use that you didn't like?
My older daughter is Aimee-Rae. Lots of people called her Aimee. We just always kept calling her Aimee-Rae, and now only people she's just met call her Aimee.
Once they start school (or daycare?), I'd just let the teacher know that she goes by her full name. I also think you'd be perfectly fine saying to Gymboree teacher "We'd like DD to go by _____, so we'd rather people use that when they refer to her so she learns her real (or full) name". I am sure the teacher has had weirder requests!
DH and I married 8 years. Mom of three, stepmom of one.
I agree with pp. You should let the gymboree lady know to call her byvher full name. She probably doesn't realize you dont like it.
From the second we said our daughter's name would be Annabelle everyone was like will her nickname be Anna or Belle. I love the full name, but I know eventually she'll get a nickname. I just hope to hold it off until she's old enough to say she doesn't like it or if she does.
I almost always use Annabelle, and if I use any other name it's her middle name Faye or "Fay-ba-day" but never just Anna or Belle.
I would say something to the teacher. She might not realize what she did or think its an issue. I shorten some of my student's names from time to time even though I'm a parent that has a kid that doesn't go by a NN. It happens.
DD1: Summer Bummer. She has gone by this since birth.
DD2: Leah bug
DD3: Ery. This is what her big sister's call her constantly.
Logan: Logy bear.
Mallorie: Mal
